“Some nice touches but slipping down fast I suspect”
Reviewed August 22, 2010

I had a nice welcome - friendly, a welcome drink, and helpful. My single room turned out to be a double but without a proper balcony and largely unfurnished. A small chair in the "loggia". The restauarant is very hit and miss. the first night I was told the only open white wine was Bacchus (God knows what that is) and Weissburgunder (Pinot Blanc from Germany - thin, vingarary, thoroughly unpleasant). so I dined out the second night just to get a decent glass of wine. But I did miss out on service and the superb veal. I tried Axel Stuben in a really famous five star hotel and frankly the meat was inferior and the buffet salad was an insult compared to here. So the third night I dined in again and this time asked for the wine list which turns out to be excellent and with plenty of good open wine from Austria. However, I thought Rosa Gebratene" would mean here in bayern the same as it means in Austria. This is not so. An excellent piece of beef arrived ruined by the chef - over cooked, grey, dry, like a piece of cardboard. I asked the waitress afterwards whether 'Rosa' meant something different in Germany than in Austria - she said no. She would tell chef. If she did then I certainly did not hear of it. I don't think Chef gave a ....! The hotel is filled with coach groups - always a sign of decline. I would not return here - plenty of alternatives in the town. Even if I did like the welcome. The parsimoniousness irritated me - hugely expensive car parking (with little real alternative) - 2 Euros for a towel - if you are paying a package rate well I guess this is fair enough but for individual travellers it's insulting. Another example at breakfast they cook eggs to order - I was given one fried egg which was scrambled being removed from the griddle with most of the yoke left behind - the girl doing this - I won't call her a chef - simply said Entschuldigung but did not offer to do another one - now that is disgusting. If I were manager I really woudl want to shake up the restauarant management - the girls serving at the tables are actually very friendly and charing - it is the management of it which is dire. Fancy letting a chef serve Rosa Gebratene...anything when it is grey and black? One other thing the rooms are not terribly well insulated. I was awakened by other guests at 4 am and the lift noise is tiresome. Unless oyu are on a cheap czech coach tour I realy woudl go somewhere else. Finally for those of us on a working trip expect to pay a huge sum for internet access. All part of the rip off mentality of the management.

This hotel was booked for us as part of a large tour group. We were pleasantly surprised with the room we got. It was spacious and with with two separate balconies. The hotel's restaurant was quite good both for the breakfasts and the one dinner we had. They have one computer for free use by guests but otherwise, one would have to pay for wifi access. The hotel is clean and good for a tourist-class hotel. It is very conveniently located with the town center within easy walking distance. The bus station is across the street along with a supermarket, post office, etc. One thing to consider when in Bad Reichenhall in June is that most restaurants and shops close early (6 p.m.??).

This hotel is clean and well maintained. The decor, fittings and and facilities have been looked after since the Hotel Residenz Bavaria was built in the 1970's!

The hotel is so out of date there is a chance that it may begin to look inviting and stylish again in a few more decades! The facilities are there but are lacking when compared to the quality of alternative hotels. For example, as a self proclaimed 'Wellness Hotel' one would expect decent leisure facilities. In reality the pool is smaller than my local rugby club bath, the changing room is no more than a single toilet cubicle on the side of the pool and the sauna has to be switched twenty minutes before you plan to use it.

Add to this the fact that it actually costs you to park your car here and you will begin to understand why I think you can find better quality accommodation with more value to enjoy the lovely town of Bad Reichenhall.
