“Very comfortable - but get in early for the wi-fi”
Reviewed July 23, 2012

I had a conference in town - things do happen in Bayreuth that have nothing to do with Wagner - so the Sherriff's Lady came along for a break. We were travelling by train and this is on the opposite side of the town centre from the station, so a taxi would be needed, but it is genuine five minute walk from the historic parts of this very pretty place. The core of the building is medieval but it has been sensitively extended to create a block of guest rooms and a very attractive dining room. The guest room had good storage space and a comfortable bed, with plenty of room for sitting. We had dinner in the restaurant one night which was so-so but the breakfast buffet was outstanding. Very friendly and helpful service at the front desk. There is one curious quirk. Unless you are in the executive rooms, they only have a limited number of free internet vouchers to give out each day. This caused some friction at a conference, because the early risers quickly tended to exhaust the supply of vouchers, leaving nothing for later risers or those checking in later in the day.

Room Tip: Main tip is - get up early if you want the free wi-fi voucher.

Only 4 minutes from city center on foot. Allow pets. Good restaurant.
City festival when we were there.

Overall, the hotel offered quality experience. Service was professional and friendly. The hotel is well maintained. The room was ok, but nothing special. It was a bit dark because of small window but overall I can't complain.

Contrary to some other reviewers, I found the hotel good value for money (EUR 128 for double room incl. breakfast for two and garage for the car). Minibar was empty but complementary mineral water was offered.

The location is good. It is close to the old town and can easily be reached by car.

I would recommend this hotel.

Breakfasts were good, but you had to pay extra for them. Also our room had a fridge, but nothing in it - no complimentary water or anything - so it fell down in comparison with one or two other places we stayed. That said, the hotel is attractive and interestingly decorated with Wagner-focused memorabilia, the rooms are comfortable (though a little small), and the stafff are excellent and helpful. We tried the restaurant, but were not impressed - the service was excellent, but the food wasn't. The hotel is a very easy walk from the town centre, and an unexpoected bonus was to find that it is almost opposite the Stadt Friedhof where we found the graves of Liszt and various members of the Wagner clan!

Room Tip: Don't know of any.

The hotel hasa shortcomings, like
- rather close to a street,
- no AC
- a simple layout
- nothing fancy, quasi dated old bar.

We went there as we got tickets for Bayreuth Meistersinger, the Wagner Festival.
We liked the place, as the service and attention to the traveller is very high and warm.
Reception folks really wanted to please and help and organize stuff.

And compared to other places in the world, its fairly cheap priced, with breakfast at 14 euro, and a beer at 3, what a good deal it is.

Our room was over 160€ and didn't include much. It was very dated, so much so that I couldn't imagine myself being intimate with someone there. But if you go to the ever so popular Bayreuth Festival and absolutely need something, then this is your place. Our television was an old cancer causing tube with a funky remote that could have easily belonged to my grand parents.
The bed was not soft at all, the pillows were just horrible and synthetic. The towels were thin mismatched textures and sizes, in an old white shade.
Our beautiful second story view faced onto the garbage area and although we asked for this to be changed if possible, it wasn't. But hey someone's gotta get this room right, and looks like it was us.
Breakfast was satisfying, had all your basics, but nothing special and not the highest quality, however, as I said, satisfying.

My travel agent booked 2 nights for me with Ramada. If you enjoy spa and sauna, big breakfast spread and nice spacious rooms go for it. There is only one internet computer to use but it could not print my boarding pasd cos the browser was too old i think. Paid 6 euros for WiFi but very slow and only in certain hotspots in the hotel. However I value convenience, free and strong Wi fi, stocked mini bar best if free and responsive reception service then this was not for me. Admittedly they try hard but can do better for the price one pays.
