If you have been wise enough to reserve a table after the opera you are in for a treat. A short walk up the hill, this is the place to see and be seen. The walls are covered with photo's of the stars who have sung at the Festspielhaus and if you're lucky the door will open and someone famous will breeze in - sometimes to rapturous standing applause. You don't get that at many restaurants. The atmosphere is highly animated and the service is deferential and smooth. The menu is a long list of delightful Italian dishes which are all terrific. I had some lamb cutlets which were just exquisite.
The wine list is a bit breathtaking both as to the extensive selection of fine wines and the very high prices that go with them. But ignore all of that and just enjoy the cultured warm atmosphere. The bill will shake you out of your dreaming but you will still remember the Burgerreuth with fondness.
