It's gothic style, main altar, stained glass it's majesty! I enjoyed guided tour and feel sorry for not climbing 768 steps as my foot was hurting me. Pity it's not advertised as much as should be, for it's worth a visit whilst travelling in Germany.

I am often in Ulm and know this church really well.
Beautiful architecture, this church is located in Ulm city's main square and looks so interesting.
The inside is also great looking and you can go up the 1000 stairs and reach a beautiful terrace, from there being on top of the world's tallest church you can even see the alps!

We were a few minutes early for the Sunday service, and very much enjoyed watching and hearing the choir practicing the key hymn for the day. We were not able to pick up on the text nor the sermon's message, with our very limited German, but the singing and big organ music left a feeling of spiritual calm, with plenty of time to admire the vaults and arches and windows. This is a Lutheran church. There is a crucifix, but not so tortured, rather flying up to heaven. The statues of saints are benign.
After the service, we returned to the hotel to change clothes, with plans to return to the church for an 11:30 am organ concert and to climb the tower.
“What's that band playing?” we wondered, and hurried back downstairs.
Back out to the plaza, near the museum, an orchestra, Musikverein Dächingen, just began an open-air concert. We found seats on the steps of a business closed for Sunday, with fine audio, although a side view of the band itself. The first trombone introduced each piece. The music was old favorites, many American-flavored: “Spirit of '69” and “Y.M.C.A.” Plus polka. Also several solos for clarinet and trumpets and trombones. The orchestra, great fun, trumped the organ music, and we stayed for the hour's concert. We recorded bits of it on our Ipods. The musicians wore black trousers, white shirts, gray vests with insignia embroidered. The men and women are of mixed age, some younger, not many all gray. A civilian in a t-shirt ran back and forth supplying the trombones with fresh beer. If the beer caused a mistake, we did not hear it.
After the concert, we ascend to heaven in the winding staircase of Ulm Münster. John honored his 72nd birthday by climbing as far as is allowed, defying knees and vertigo and close squeezing with other climbers. Marilyn waited in the 2/3 up platform, above the bells. Splendid views on this warm, sunny, clear day.
