“Great location and breakfast, noisy, no air conditioner”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 7, 2012

I would say that it is an great value for money hotel, breakfast is great, location is the best, beds are very comfortable, BUT not considering the horrible decoration and lack of service details such as shower cups, the most terrible thing is to do not have air conditioner, last night I suffered a lot, even though Germany is not so hot.
Neighboor is quite noisy, bring earplugs.
Refurbshiment right now!

Location: 15min walk from the main station and 10min walk from the old town. This hotel should have a 2 star rating. The room was clean, but the furniture was old and worn out. Minibar was out of order. TV was ancient. No air-conditioning in the room, so it was very hot. Our room was facing the back of the hotel and when we opened the window at night, there was a lot of noise from air-conditioning units on other buildings. Bathroom was small with rust on most of the metal fittings. No tea/coffee maker in the room. Free internet was provided, but we were not warned that it had usage and time limits per day. The only good thing about this hotel was that buffet breakfast was included in the room price.

We spent four nights here in May as part of a pre-packaged tour whose operator kept costs low. This is a typical European tourist hotel--cheap. Everything is cramped. The one elevator could barely hold two people and two suitcases. There were steps up and down everywhere. The room was tiny, had one electric fan and no air conditioning. We were constantly hot. There was no place to comfortably sit in the room. We had a balcony, and we kept the door open for ventilation, but that let in noise. Some people in adjoining rooms (not in our tour group) were very loud. The TV and the hot water did work. Breakfast was okay. The hotel's one computer for guests didn't work and the front desk clerk didn't know how to fix it. The location was excellent--two blocks from public transit and three blocks from excellent shopping and restaurants. Stuttgart is a wonderful city with a lot to see. My advice is to find a better hotel to use as your base.

The Astoria Hotel is not bad but I only recommends it for a very short stay. The rooms and bathrooms are clean but very old fashioned. The breakfast room is still the same as fifty years ago. The hotel needs an urgent renovation. A plus: at night we did hear nothing.

Positive:
Good location, just a few minutes walk from a big bus and s-bahn station and not even five min walk to the city centre with many restaurants and stores. 24h reception with helpful staff on duty. 140cm bed in a single room (#301). Good price, payed about 70Eur per night with breakfast. Clean room, even though it had a wall to wall carpet!

Negative:
Bad connection with wifi, I had to get new codes 1-2 times per day and the connection shut off after a while and you had to log in again - disturbing! No blackout curtains, so I got sunshine into the room early in the morning. The room had no working minibar and you couldn't buy cold water at the front desk.

I had Room #301.

This hotel is miles away from 3 stars! It deserves max 2. Rooms are small and ugly, bathroom nothing in it. Not even a soap! Ok, the bed sheets were clean. To conclude, never again!

Don't expect luxury and large rooms. It's located close to metro station, easy to find coming from airport and to go to center of the city. Is has clean rooms , good breakfast , free internet and helpfull english-speaking front desk stuff. If you find the price is good, it is excactly what you are paying for.

Room Tip: Avoid rooms near the elevator, it is rather anoying early in the morning
