“Good value and central location”
Reviewed February 18, 2013

This hotel is steps from the HBF and also the shopping district. I got a very good rate (weekend) and the room was average sized, clean and modern. My room faced the back so there was no street noise, but you could hear the maids banging up and down the halls in the morning. Pleasant breakfast.

Room Tip: Request a room off of the street side if you are a light sleeper.

I stayed here with three colleagues on business. My room was a small single room facing the rear of the hotel. With the windows open there was some "machinery" noise, but not too bad. My colleagues all had rooms towards the front of the hotel and were disturbed by the noise from the street (4-lane road), trams, etc.. The hotel relocated two of them. My room was small (it appeared to be the smallest on the floor) but I found it surprisingly comfortable. There was a desk for working, small wardrobe, built-in bed, bathroom with shower. Everything was reasonably new and very clean. The whole hotel appears to have been (very well) renovated within the last year or so. There is WLAN throughout the hotel and I measured 1-2 mbps although this was slightly shaky and I wasn't able to stream TV. The room was cleaned and tidied every day. Breakfast was in a room overlooking the city, which was nice. The offering was perfectly adequate. The hotel has a few garage spaces at EUR 10 per day. In the small lobby friends of the owners seemed to gather and there was some smoking, but not really a problem. All in all the hotel served its purpose, but there was a downside. At EUR 120 per night (inc. breakfast but not the garage) the hotel is over-priced. We assume that this was a "trade fair" rate, although the hotel was not obviously busy. Also, the reservation was made by phone and email and the cancellation was "10 days before stay or full payment for the complete stay". The hotel also sent an invoice (in fact a print out without name of the hotel, address, VAT or anything) 10 days before the stay and expected full payment. This was refused and the stay was secured with a credit card (which they said would have been charged with the full stay's costs if we had cancelled). The hotel needs to be a bit more user-friendly in that respect.

Room Tip: Either on a higher floor and / or to the rear. A colleague got 303, "The President Suite"...

The hotel is located in a very central place, where you can easily walk into the city centre, or get on a tram that passes by just outside. The hotel is situated on a very noisy four-lane-road where trams and cars were really a noisy contribution to our stay. We had two double-rooms, and they were nicely furnished, and the beds were good. Bathrooms were modern and nice. Both our rooms faced the traffic, and it was very difficult to sleep as the trams pass the window almost all the night. The next morning, two of us asked for another room, and we were provided with at room on the other side. This room was also a nice and spacy room, with all the necessary facilities, and facing the other way made it more livable. The teenagers managed the noise better, but being in July, we would want the windows open at night. It was impossible on the noisy side of the hotel - where most of the double-rooms are situated. The staff was friendly, and the cleaning good. Breakfast was included, and it was good. All in all, I would have given this hotel a "three", but due to the terrible traffic, I ended up giving it a "two". So, if you don't get bothered by traffic-noise (which really is heavy), this is a good and central hotel in Mannheim. If you like sleeping with your window open, find another place to stay. It is not the manager's fault, but the traffic really was a draw-back - too bad because the hotel would have been a good alternative for my Mannheim-stays if not.
