“Good city hotel, Excellent location”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 26, 2012

Our family stayed in two adjacent rooms here for 5 nights in early June. Our rooms were modern and updated. Beds comfortable, bathrooms clean and well equipped.

The indoor pool area is on the top floor. Small shallow pool, not really for lap swimmers. Nice sauna and shower areas.

Our favorite was the breakfast buffet. A first-class selection of traditional European and American breakfast items, very hard to choose! Definitely worth including with your room rate. Service is crisp and efficient.

In general this is a business hotel, but our large group of families felt comfortable and welcome here.

Couple of odd items. As the previous reviewer noted, the room keys would stop working every day. They were promptly replaced at the front desk each time, but not a word of explanation.

Also: US guests must be aware of the bed sizes in Europe. This hotel's "queen" mattress is really a US "full" (slightly wider than a twin), enough for 1 person. This hotel's "king" mattress, is really a US "queen", enough for two people. Book rooms accordingly, don't assume you will be able to squeeze. A standard room here contains either two queens or 1 king, and you will find out only when you check in, which type you'll get!

Overall a nice hotel, just steps away from the main promenade through the city center.

I have only 3 days and every day after breakfast go to my room and find the key does not work. I have one more week left, let see what happens. Very clean hotel and right in the centre of Mannheim. But the room are old and dated. My last visit was 10 years ago and everything remains the same.

Right in the centre of Mannheim – 10 minutes walk from the station, and 30 seconds from the main shopping street.
Not a new property but reasonably modern. I was given an Executive Room which was very large indeed, in fact if anything it was too large for the size of television. From the bed it was difficult to follow what was going on! Decent bathroom, good shower.

Gym facilities very limited. 2 static cardio machines (bike, elliptical) and one treadmill. Nothing else. There is reasonable swimming pool though if that is your bag. I certainly wouldn’t say that it was a fitness room though, so beware of staying here if you are looking to have a full workout whilst on the road.

Breakfast was excellent. Full buffet, plenty of options. Could have done with more healthy options though – no Soy milk, and poorly labeled milk choices (Semi skimmed, skimmed, low lactose etc)

All in all, a perfectly acceptable choice, but I’ll be staying somewhere with a better gym.

Room Tip: Exec Rooms are best

Hotel Galvez is extremely beautiful inside and very classy though the room we stayed in was smaller than any hotel room I have ever booked. It was clean, but cramped. The hotel provided a beautiful robe in the closet and when they cleaned the room the next day, they took the robe without replacing it. I called the front desk and they brought a new robe that night - which again was taken the next day and not replaced. They also didn't replace the bottled water on several occassions (we stayed for 5 nights). When I called they immediately sent up more bottled water with apologies. Never did get robes for the rest of the stay. Pool area was clean and beautiful. Pricey for the size of the room.

This is the fifth and last time that I am staying at the Holiday Inn in Mannheim. Every time I hope that the hotel has updated their rooms but that doesn't appear to be the case. The rooms are old and dated and the amenities in the rooms are very old. (small, old tv, radio and clock incorporated in the bed, which is still from the 80's, bathrooms that haven't been updated in 30 years). I am a platinum member of the Holiday Inn group and I was unable to get a room with a king size bed, or a room that had adequate ventilation. Although Holiday Inn advertises that the hotel is air conditioned, they fail to mention that each room does NOT have individual controls - the heating and air is temperature controlled by the hotel itself and each room can only adjust the temperature by 2 degrees up or down. The pillows in the room are cheap, old and lumpy and should be replaced. For the price that the Holiday Inn charges, they should really start updating their rooms. Too bad, Holiday Inn Mannheim - you have lost a Platinum customer. I will not stay at this hotel again. Positive: the hotel staff is friendly and tries to help out.

When the alarm clock is incorporated in the bed and the red LED display keeps you up all night, you know it's time to upgrade the room!

We spent a night at the hotel during Easter holidays. The location of the hotel is excellent. In the center of the town close to the major attractions and about 10 minutes walk from the train station. Our room was large and comfortable. Wireless Internet was included in our business package. We discovered, just before leaving, that because of the Internet package we could have made free phone calls to landlines phones; very disappointing, as no one at the reception told us anything about it when we checked in! Some people at the reception were not very friendly; we asked recommendations for a restaurant and they were not very helpful!
