“nice ambiance and deco”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

The old building and candles provide great ambiance. Food is reasonably priced. On a warm day you can take a place outside and enjoy the sun as well. The walls were beautifully decorated with typography. It helps to kill time if you are in a queue for buffet.

“It ruins the reputation of Italian cuisine”
Reviewed May 13, 2013

"Vapiano" is said to offer a kind of Italian way of cooking: well, it's false. That's not Italian food! I'm Italian, and those pastas with no texture and strange-tasting sauces all over, those pizzas (large more than the plate itself, but thin as you couldn't imagine them to be!), those salades with nothing in... well all this is just opposite to the true Italian-food experience.

I went there one of the last nights, it was dark outside, and inside it was the same: do they economize on the lightning?? There is music, not intolerably loud but neither pleasant.
Timing is not optimal, but that can be tolerate with ease, if you are in good company and you feel like chatting while exspecting your dish.
What is really displeasing is the food itself. First of all, don't take the "kleine salad" because you will pay euros for little more than nothing: some sheets of salad involved in an unidentified white sauce which has no color, no flavour, no taste, no consistence (it's something between oil and expired yogurt...); in it you will find maybe five very little "croutons" (actually, some tiny tidbit of toasted oiled bread) and one (I say 1!) "pomodoro ciliegino" (a variety of tomatoes as "big" as a cherry); over this wonderful mixture, they will ask if you like some Parmigiano reggiano, if you answer "Ja bitte", they will put five or six -not more- slices (I mean chips) of a cheese that for sure is NOT Parmigiano Reggiano, neither Grana Padano, but some melted cheese. That's all. I wasn't hungry at the beginning, that's why I chose salad (I know salads usually aren't made to fill your stomach), but I went out with a buzz in my stomach. One of my friends took a pizza, but at the end she had to order another one togethere with her boyfriend because the first one hadn't been enough! Same thing with the appetizers: they cover the entire surface of the plate with tomato sauce, "strands" of cheese (not Parmigiano Reggiano) and ham (not the true Prosciutto!).
Definitely the opposite than a good, sapid, abundant Italian "piatto di pasta" or an Italian true pizza stuffed with good tomato, good "mozzarella", basil, and the simplest dressing of all: a drizzle of true extravergin olive oil.
So, don't expect anything truly Italian from that "restaurant"/pub/I don't know how to define it: even the little vases of rosemary and basil that you will find put on the tables are fake: they don't have any kind of smell. And I won't say anything about the absolutely transparent and tasteless olive oil proposed on the tables.
Prices aren't as light as the food you'll find in your plate.

So, truly speaking, choose "Vapiano" only if you don't expect anything from your dinner.

“Nice decor and atmosphere , food nice and interesting concept”
Reviewed November 11, 2012

Good pasta and pizza ok (went 2 nights pasta better than pizza for me) . Concept is the credit card on entrance and then order what you want . However you have to wait at till for pasta whilst pizza you have a buzzer ( why not for both ???) I say that as it makes the meal disjointed and drinks que up again at a separate bar . Night 2 they had run out of puddings .

So it is a nice place to eat in a nice atmosphere bu tthe concept not quite right and needs a little bit of work . Don't get me wrong would go again but shame about the concept not being quite right (for me).
