“Nice”

If you travel by train or want to go to the Zoo, this choice is a no-brainer. Nothing very special, but all essential is there. The building is well kept. Nice restaurant and bar, good breakfast buffet. More bars just outside if you need it.

Room Tip: Try to avoid the tram side...

Hotel is outside station and on the right as you come out , 15mins walk from the centre.
Positives are nice style of building of this period building.

If your a light sleeper then the trams down one side may be a problem especially on lower floors.

Breakfast ok , usual continental.

What I disliked is that rooms did not have wi-fi , extra charge , water in the room was a wopping 4.50Euro - ok if you want beer from the minibar but for water . At the price I paid I would expect this included (not cheap) and wi-fi . also tram ticket extra , I have stayed at places in German near the station yet not in the centre and been given comlimentary tickets . Everything extra and given the price I don't see it is good value . again the room was very clean but small and not really that comfortable to use as a working space .

So liked the look of the building and downstairs is nice but (for me) value was poor and the bedrooms a disappointment.

Room Tip: high up and check whether you are tram street side - front /back .

The hotel is just 3 minutes walk from central railway station, just on the station square and close to the city zoo. Old fashioned original elevator dated 1914, wide stairs, heavy wooden reception - all you need to feel special. The room is standard, wired internet, wi-fi is only in the lobby - all for charge.

Room Tip: Zoo view would be better option

A delightful property, full of character. I had a room on the zoo side of the hotel, which is the quiet side; I imagine the tram side of the hotel could be quite noisy. That said, the room was very clean and comfortable. Mini-bar prices were reasonable. The live piano in the lobby bar was a lovely touch, adding to the atmosphere and character of the hotel. I didn't try the restaurant for dinner, but the breakfast was very good. It's location near the station was perfect for my needs.

Room Tip: Ask for a room on the zoo side.

As others have noted the hotel is near the trams. In particular, room 108 is on the 1st floor on the corner of the building with windows on two sides so muct be the worst room for noise. The hotle was no where near full but that's the room they gave me. Earplugs on the bedside table were a clue. For what it's worth, the trams carry on all night but at much reduced frequency between 01:00 and 06:00

Apart from that, its quite OK. Has character and on the business rate I was on decent value. Breakfast was fine and staff we helpful. Apart from the joker who allocated my room

Room Tip: Avoid 108, Avoid the SW corner

I booked this hotel for 9 days. Moved to another one after 2 days.
Tiny rooms are crying for renovation.
Gym is a joke: three machines on 15 sq. meters, one of which is not working, another one is about to stop working.
Internet, which is a must-have for a 4* hotel, costs per day about as much as what I pay per month - 17 Euro, yet I haven't managed to connect (even with a cable).
Staff - some are friendly, some are not. Two of the three people I had to deal with at the reception were nice and helpful, the third guy was very arrogant.
Rooms might be cleaned daily, but that you will hardly tell, since the carpets on the floor are worn out, should have been changed years ago. The same applies to a tiny bathroom.
I booked a non-smoker room, but I had smoke from my neighbors through ventilation.
I will give the hotel 2 points: one - for very good breakfasts, another one - for convenient location. But that's about it.

Room Tip: If you have to choose a good room, choose it in a different hotel.

One of the older hotels. Elevator has the same age as the hotel.

Four star may be somewhat exaggerated and price is not cheap, but still, this is the best hotel I have found in Karlsruhe since Kaiserhof, which was my favorite, closed.

Restaurant is not bad. But again, not cheap either.
