Great little place for traditional German food with a mediterranean flair. I love the Weiner Schnitzel with roasted potatoes, the breading is light and doesn't drown the flavor of the meat. My other favorite is the Dorfshanke salad with roast beef.

We loved the food, service and atmosphere we ate here both nights we were in Heidelberg. Why look for somewhere else when you have found the best food in town. There were three of us and each night we tried different meals [6 meals in all] with no disappointments. We actually debated who had made the best choice with no conclusion drawn all were so good. You would be doing yourself a disservice by not visiting this restaurant. We know if we are back in Heidelberg where we will go to eat.........

I started going to this restaurant when I moved to Heidelberg 5 years ago and have been back countless times. It's one of my favorite places to bring guests because of it's cozy decor and, of course, the absolutely fantastic food that is a good mix of traditional German/Alsatian and pan-European cuisine.

As far as I know, they do not have English menus, and the handwritten German ones can be a challenge to decipher, but the waitstaff speaks English and can give you suggestions on what to order.

It's all fantastic, but my suggestions for people are the Maultaschen (meat-stuffed ravioli cut into cross-sections, placed in a casserole dish with sauce, then topped with cheese and baked) and the Kräuterhexe (a perfectly cooked pork steak served with herb butter and blow-your-mind fried potatoes with bacon). Most dishes come with a generous salad served on the same plate. There are a number of vegetarian options, too, which I assume are also good given the quality of the rest of the menu. I've also never EVER had room for dessert.

It's not a big place, so it's a good idea to reserve at peak times.
