“Superb Accommodations and Exceptional Service”
Reviewed March 14, 2013

We stayed at Hotel Kurpfalzhof for 13 days, and would have happily stayed longer. The hotel is the epitome of European friendliness and attention to detail and service. It is centrally located to Heidelberg from which you can travel throughout Europe. The rooms were large and meticulously maintained. The breakfast buffet is the finest that we have ever had the pleasure of enjoying. The area is very walkable and just the place to rest from your travels. The owners, Volker and Sabina Mampel, are knowledgeable, gracious and expertly attentive to their guests. Without reservations, we recommend highly Hotel Kurpfalzhop as the place to stay, and the Mampel family are thanked for creating an environment designed with their guests in mind.

We had scheduled a 3 day layover in Germany on our flight home from Singapore to Florida. We knew we didn't want to be far from Frankfurt and just wanted to find a quiet place in the country and relax. We could not have found a better place! Our flight from Singapore got in early and we were through customs and out with our rental car within an hour and another hour later we were knocking on Volker & Sabina's door. It was great... but the trouble was... it was only 9am! We rang the doorbell and were buzzed in. My partner and I walked in and were greeted by Sabina. We told her we had two nights reservations 3/6 and 3/7 and we apologized for being so early, but could you just point us to a little restaurant so we can get some breakfast and relax. Sabina said our room wasn't ready, but she had breakfast ready right through the doorway and we were welcome to partake and then asked us if we would like some Bacon and Egg's and how would we like it? Wow!! As we ate our breakfast, Sabina was busy taking care of the other guests when Volker walked over to our table and introduced himself. We chatted about our trip and his recent trip to Florida. The next thing you know, he's leading us upstairs to a room they had made ready for us. Even though it wasn't the room we ordered, it was more than adequate and very large, bright and cheerful. At 10:15am we were showered and taking a nap. Tell me where else a hotel would let you check in at 9am! We came down from a several hour nap and Sabina told us where to go in Heidelberg and we spent the afternoon walking Heidelberg. Contrary to what you might read about driving in Heidelberg, it's very easy and parking is plentiful. The next day we toured the countryside for 250 km around Heidelberg and then came back to the hotel and Volker referred us to a delightful restaurant in Schwetzingen next to an old Catholic Church built in 1435. Dinner was delicious. We said farewell after breakfast on Friday to catch our flight home from Frankfurt. Our stay was made better than perfect by a wonderful couple who are genuinely friendly and care about their customer. Thank you Volker & Sabina for a wonderful stay. We look forward to returning soon!

Room Tip: All the rooms are good. Good views & You can't hear anything in between rooms. It's grea...

We had a great one night stay at the Hotel Kurpfalzhof in December.

We were staying with some other members of our family, and Volker (the owner) was extremely welcoming and friendly, giving maps and all kind of information about where to go and what to see. The breakfast was lovely also - the hotel had a very family friendly feel.

It was very easy to find as it was just off the freeway and is just a short drive away from the Heidelberg town centre. It was also very quiet at night, which was lovely.

We had a car, so found it easy to get into town, but if you didn’t it may be a bit of a struggle, although I believe there was a regular bus running into the centre from quite close to the hotel.

All in all, we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend the Hotel Kurpfalzhof to anyone wanting to stay in Heidelberg.

this is our second stay here.... first time was Fall of 2012. Fine accommodations - large, comfortable rooms, immaculate, well equipped with spacious desk and enough outlets to serve phones, computers and whatnot... Owners exceptionally nice. Excellent breakfast buffet and eggs made to order. Ample parking. Only a few kilometers from Heidelberg. Easily accessible from main highway. Quiet. Highly recommended.

Room Tip: Second floor rooms are fine. Haven't seen other floors, but I imagine anywhere is ok. Upper fl...

The hotel is the best. Volker family is very dedicated towards customers and are very friendly and helping. The hotel is best in all the areas - like cleanliness, room design, facilities, ambience. My Appartment had a fully equipped kitchen and very well maintained furniture. Very nice breakfast to start the day. Overall it was a memorable stay at the hotel! Highly recommended!

My favorite hotel while in Germany. The room was large, the bathroom was very comfortable, clean and upgrated. The service was incredible and so friendly and helpful. The room rate included breakfast buffet. The selection was large and very tasty. I wish we could have stayed longer.

We selected this hotel based on the reviews on Tripadvisor, and they were right on. We stayed four nights, visiting my son who was studying at the university in Heidelberg. Rooms were spotlessly clean and comfortable. Our room had a small kitchen area with a fridge and a microwave. The room rate included a breakfast buffet with eggs made to order. (Internet was included as well). The owner and his family gave us many good suggestions for sightseeing and local restaurants. It's a great place to stay if you are visiting this part of Germany. It is outside of Heidelberg, though, and close to the highway - so having a car would be ideal. Plenty of free parking. It makes a great base for Heidelberg (10 - 15 minutes or so by car). Schwetzingen and Speyer are nearby as well. Other sites - Baden Baden (45 minutes) and even Strasbourg (1hr 30 minutes) are well within driving range.
