“Ideal Base for Visit to Heidelberg & Rhein-Neckar Triangle”
Reviewed June 11, 2009

My parents and I had a five-night stay at the Villa Marstall. We have no complaints. The hotel is spotless. The staff is incredibly friendly. The location is excellent--right in the Altstadt, overlooking the Neckar. It's a ways from the main train station (~10 Euro cab fare), but an easy walk from the Altstadt/Karlstor S-bahn station for trips up the Neckar or into Mannheim. We stayed in Room 42, a two-room suite on the top floor. We had separate bedrooms (I was in the living area on a pull-out couch, but that's really not a fair description--it was the largest and most comfortable pull-out I've ever slept on) and even a little kitchenette. Just watch your head around the edges of the room--the roof makes its presence known. The breakfast is a good deal and is served in the hotel's pleasantly unique (and bright) cellar. I would have no reservations about returning.

Dear Reader,
This is a great hotel, very centrally located in the heart of the old town. Our standard room, although not spacious, was well designed and comfortable. The breakfast was excellent and located in the tastefully decorated brick-lined cellar. The only drawback was that there was no sitting area in the hotel for the guests. We had excellent weather and so it was easy to meet up with our friends outside but this would have been different in bad weather.

We stopped in Heidelberg on the first night of a 11-day trip through Germany, France and Italy. The hotel was wonderful - the best of the whole trip! We upgraded to a river-view room with a four poster bed and loved it. The room and bathroom were spacious and clean. The view of the river was beautiful. The staff could not have been friendlier or more helpful. Breakfast in the "vaulted cellar" was unique and plentiful with the traditional meats, cheeses, fruit and pastries all beautifully arranged. Our only regret was that we didn't stay longer!

The parking was a bit inconvenient, but that is the price you pay for staying in the pedestrian zone. The hotel can give you a temporary parking pass for unloading/loading bags, which was quite helpful.

Hotel is over the river, close to the road, but we did not ear the traffic. Rooms are beauty clean and simple. Good breakfast (basic but tasty). Location is really good, 100 meters to pedestrian area. It is a good choice, but parking is not included, you have to pay a public parking, 10' walking, 10€/day.

My wife and I visited Heidelberg recently and found the Hotel Villa Marstall after reading the reviews here on TripAdvisor. We couldn't be happier with our decision to stay there! It is an absolutely beautiful hotel in a 19th century building that has been exquisitely restored and remodeled. The rooms are charming and elegant, but are also equipped with modern conveniences such as LCD TVs and free internet access. Everything was spotlessly clean and the staff were all extremely friendly and helpful and everyone also spoke English quite well. Our room had a fantastic view of the river and was beautifully decorated. The canopy bed was very comfortable and the room was much bigger than expected!

After checking in, we were looking for a great restaurant and the friendly receptionist offered us several great suggestions. Old town Heidelberg is literally right out the front door and the castle is no more than 5-7 minutes walking distance so the location is ideal. The next morning when we went downstairs for breakfast, we happened to meet the owner, Marcia, who was wonderful and enthusiastically showed us some of the unbooked rooms which were all unique and beautiful. She and her husband obviously take pride in their hotel and it shows in every aspect. The breakfast was great and was in the cellar which has also been completely restored, it's a pretty amazing place to eat!

All in all, you won't find a better place to stay! We will definitely be staying at the Hotel Villa Marstall during our next trip to Heidelberg!
