This past summer, we stayed at the Art Hotel during a family driving vacation through southern Germany. The Art Hotel was the perfect place for our stop in Heidelberg. As we were on a driving trip, it was great to have parking available at the hotel. It would have been hard to find a place to park otherwise. The hotel was conveniently located and a short walk out the front door put you close to everything. The staff was very friendly and helpful. We felt very much at home. We had 2 rooms on the top floor right across a small hall from each other. They were the only two rooms up on that floor, so it felt like we had our own little suite. There was no elevator to those rooms, so it was a good thing we had two strong teenage boys to help us with the luggage up the small flight of stairs. Our boys had a unique room with a wonderful little dormer with two extra beds-which would have been great for someone traveling with small children. It would have been way too tight of a room for the four of us with teenage kids. Our room across the hall was very spacious and on a corner, so when the windows were open, we had a wonderful breeze through our room. As we were on the top floor, there was no worry of anyone seeing in our windows. Beds were comfortable. The rooms were clean and modern. The AC worked fine, but it only stayed on if your key was in the key holder, making for a warm room when returning from dinner. The boys' bathroom was a little small, but it worked well for them. Our bathroom was such a wonderful break from the usual hotel bathrooms that are all sealed up with no windows to open. This bathroom was huge, had a walk in shower, and a great little window to open. By far the best bathroom we had during our trip through Germany. This hotel was a beautiful mix of old and new. It was very charming! We did not have dinner at the hotel, but we did have a wonderful breakfast that I believe was included in the cost of the room. We will absolutely stay here again. We loved the hotel and we loved the town of Heidelberg!

Location is really perfect: next to main university library building, with Universitaetsplatz around the corner, the main pedestrian area around 100m away from the doorstep, in the middle of Old Town and at the food of the Castle hill. We warn non-European tourists though: there are two churches close by and you will be hearing the church bells. (We heard some American tourists complain about this at the front desk. Just be aware and accept that this is part of the local culture.) There is a parking garage in the basement, very convenient.
The house is a beautifully restaurated old house in Old Town, with a careful and charming mix of the old exterior and modern interior. There are books and reading corners which gives a really nice touch. The staff is very professional and friendly; the restaurant good (we had only breakfast there: this was continental only, but still well assorted for such a relatively small house; egg dishes could be ordered).
We had the suite ('Erkerzimmer' = orial room) on 1st floor. This was very spaceous with modern, minimalistic interior and a nice bathroom (thank God: shower and bathtub separated).
The prices are the usual for this cathegory.

Beautiful room with original painted ceiling. Loved the wood floors and minimalist décor. Large bathroom with huge, separate soaking tub. Our windows looked out over a charming church courtyard. Excellent location that is quiet, but within a few blocks of the main street. The secure parking garage was a nice bonus.

Right from the start this hotel made a great impression. Tired after a long drive we arrived to a good welcome and a room full of character, comfort and style. The room overlooked the central courtyard of this tastefully restored and converted building, with old and new blending exceptionally well. If you enjoy stylish design features you will appreciate the care with which this hotel has been furnished and decorated - artful design features never overwhelming the character of the original building but making a statement nonetheless. The hotel was surprisingly quiet for early September, but we enjoyed our stay immensely with dinner and breakfast being of a very high quality! The staff couldn't have been more helpful and contributed to our enjoyment of our stay. On site secure parking was a much appreciated bonus with a car full of luggage,

Situated in the old town, the hotel was perfectly located to explore the most interesting sights of Heidelberg on foot. A university town, obviously popular with tourists, with plenty to see and explore. There was a really nice atmosphere in the central area of the town with cafes and shops in abundance.

This hotel was one of four hotels we stayed in during our road trip of the region. The hotel is a short stroll from all of the central sites, and has been thoughtfully styled. Our room had its original painted ceiling, which was beautiful and unexpected. The bathroom was indeed a bathroom, with a large bath and separate shower (which many hotel rooms don't now have). Our car was also very comfortable during our stay, in the hotel garage. Heidelberg is an ideal city to visit for a short break. Great for romance and history lovers, with a Schloss where James I daughter Elizabeth Stuart once lived following her marriage to Frederick V. The city has a plethora of bars and restaurants to choose from, so no chance of going hungry or thirsty. Fantastic ice creams from the shop on the street leading to the Old Bridge (black cherry was amazing). What also stood out at the Arthotel was the reception we had from the staff, who were at all times genuinely friendly and helpful. For example, on check in we were helped with our luggage and personally shown to our room. Thankyou Arthotel. A memorable start to our road trip.

Room Tip: Check if the painted ceiling room is available

Great hotel, room was very big, but watch out for low beams in the ceiling! Lovely modern decor. Bathroom was great. Everything was very clean. Good location. Heidelberg is an easy town to get around on foot. Lots of good bars and restaurants. Would definitely recommend this hotel.
