“#2, really?”
2 of 5 bubbles Reviewed April 23, 2012

Picked this hotel after reading the reviews. It was okay - overrated. Disclaimer - my opinion may be the result of being accustomed to bigger city hotels.

Parking - a very small parking garage. Had trouble finding a space upon arrival and had to surrender the car key as we ended up parking obstructively. They wouldn't let us leave our car there while we went out to sightsee on the day we checked out.

Service - due to the small size of the hotel, it means that there is only one person on duty at the reception at any point in time. Had to wait a long time both checking in and out as the person was either not there or was attending to someone else. There is no concierge. The guy who handled our check in was nice and gave us directions to the main stretch of shops/restaurants (3 minutes' walk). However the lady handling our checkout did a bad job of describing how to get to the castle (she did not tell us about the funicular train). The city map provided was a pixellated black and white photocopy that was difficult to follow and we got lost a bit. I expect hotels to provide professionally colour printed city maps with attractions clearly indicated.

Room - We got a room on the top floor with a slanted ceiling. Try not to get this room especially if you are tall (I was short and had to be careful not to hit my head). The room is outfitted with modern furnishings and is clean, neat and bare. However it felt cold and hard - not cosy at all. It was too chilly for my liking. Blinds (including those in the bathroom) seemed inadequate. There was nowhere to hang a bath towel within easy reach from the shower.

The arthotel in heidelberg offers a pleasant place to stay. The staff is attentive and frendly, gave us the feeling of beeing welcome from the first moment. We had a room on the 2nd floor, which has the original wooden beams along the ceiling. Problem is that they are to low, You cant walk around your bed without having to lower your head, And of course I hit my head once. Breakfast was oke, though we were fairley late, it was no problem. Excellent restaurant, we had dinner there both nights of our stay. Parking under the hotel, near the lift that takes you to the floor with your room. When we be in Heidelberg again, we wil stay in the Arthotel again.

I love this place. Super-modern hotel but maintaining the old features of the original building. Great restaurant as well. I agree with previous that only downside is having to pay for the internet. Come on, guys - your room rates are high enough - just build it in.

For that to be the only down side says it all, really,

We stayed here for one night and had a very enjoyable stay. The location is excellent!

The room we stayed in was one of the smallest in the hotel, but was still lovely. It had a cool, old ceiling that contrasted with the rest of the modern finishings in the room.

The bathroom was modern and spacious with a lovely, if small bath in addition to the shower.

All and all, we enjoyed our stay and would recommend this hotel to others.

We spent two nights and days at the Arthotel for an off-site. We were very much impressed with the beauty of the rooms. They are huge, modern, luxurious, have beautiful wooden floors and amazing bathrooms. Each of the bathrooms had one of those rain showers and a beautiful bath tub.

The hotel is in a quiet side street in the historic centre of Heidelberg, just opposite the university library and a two minutes walk from the pedestrian street that runs through the city. So it's minutes away from all the shops and restaurants. It was pretty cold already, when we said here, but I imagine it would be really nice to spend some time on the huge roof-top terrace.

The service was great too, during the very delicious breakfast, during our all-day meetings and at the bar. Everyone was very friendly and helpful.

Two thirds of our party (guests from US, UK and Sweden) actually staid an extra night because they loved the Arthotel and the city of Heidelberg so much.

I also found that the hotel was a very good value for money and so was the package for the off-site. Prices for parking and Internet are also moderate.

Art hotel Heidelberg ticks all the boxes for an excellent hotel, bar their lack of internet.

It is fabulously located, about halfway along the hauptstrausse (main shopping st) and one block or so back, so you walk about 150m and you are on the hauptstrausse and perfectly located for all touristy and shopping places.
The rooms are huge, modern and I couldn't fault them. Bathroom is pure luxury
Staff were excellent, recognized who we were before I even told them our name.
The breakfast varied - on our first day it was an amazing buffet with heaps of yummy pastries (croissants, custard twists, Danishes, pain au chocolates), cooked egg, oj, bread, fruit, cereals, yoghurts etc which you could help yourself to; then the next two days we had a weird little platter of cheeses and hams/meats delivered to our table, eggs and coffee on demand, and very little in terms of the buffet - still a reasonable breakfast for the price, but far less variety.
The bus 32 easily got us there and back from the train station for I think 1.20euro. Very disappointed at the lack of manners shown to me on the crowded bus when I had a pram with a young baby in it - amazed people didn't offer any assistance & treated me like a nuisance. But that has nothing to do with the hotel, just only go on the bus if u can easily handle your luggage - there is a taxi rank 20m from the hotel otherwise (we didn't want baby in taxi without car seat, hence the bus being used!)
The hotel is a gorgeous mix of modern and old facade, and we didn't get to try the restaurant for dinner but it looked wonderful
And a downside to people with babies is they charge for a cot (we took our own which was free) but that probably deters people traveling with young babies from staying there
which means a nice quiet hotel for everyone else so I'd consider that a plus :-)
The only fault of this hotel is it's Internet - it is overpriced for this day and age but more importantly had norange in our room. Really a hotel of this class needs reliable Internet of decent strength in every room, and preferably free or half the current price!
But fantastic hotel, will be recommending it loudly, location fantastic!

Stayed there for a few days on business - room was quite spacious, large bed, flat screen TV and a desk. WiFi is quite expensive at €10/day.
Bathroom with both tub and shower, basic amenities provided.

All staff is very friendly and helpful - definitely a place to stay for reasonable money.
