“Great location and price”
Reviewed September 30, 2009

Stayed here for four nights on a business trip. The room was simple, but very clean, comfortable and at a great price. I couldn't have asked for a better location from which to enjoy the city. It was close to everything except parking, but I have come to expect that from Europe. The staff was very friendly. The pub was great. I really enjoyed the enterainment and well as the beer. Loved the soccer and Irish music. Will definitely stay at the Dubliner again.

Smack in the centre, inexpensive, clean and on top of an Irish Pub! Not too noisy, at least I did not notice anyhow. If you only want a place to hold your bags and sleep, then this is great. If, you want something more, try somewhere else!

The suite was really nice. Hardwood floors, a seperate little area with a couch. The bathroom was small, as are most in Europe. Located on the fourth floor, you do have to go up and down the steps each day, as there's no elevator. No room service, or even a phone in the room to call anyone for service, although a maid did come each day. They take your credit card number before hand, so upon checkout, you just leave your key in the room - there's no desk to even check out at if you leave before the bar opens. There's a seperate entrance located right next to the door to the bar, so that once you've checked in, you don't have to go through that area anytime you want in or out of your room. We did ask the bartender for directions one of the days & she was very friendly & helpful. The suite does have a balcony area - just enough room for one or two people to stand, but a nice addition, as I didn't notice any other hotels with a balcony. It is located on a main pedestrian street, which I loved. I felt like we were in the midst of a festival, staying at a hotel right in the middle of it, which we would pay big bucks for at home in the States, but which was inexpensive here in Heidelberg! The streets were busy with tourists from all over & felt so safe, with all the people around that could speak English. Closing the windows and the thick blinds at night, noise wasn't an issue.

We're just recently back from a 3 night stay in the Dubliner Hotel, i went with my partner and friends, this was my first time to stay there after hearing so much about it from my friends who had stayed here last year and also came back with us this year.

On arriving to the Dubliner my first impressions were excellent, a lively bar, friendly staff, very helpfull and we were checked in within minutes. Although there was no lift up to the rooms, we weren't disapointed as a bit of exercise is no harm especially when food is as good as it was there. The rooms where spotless and cleaned on a daily basis. Hotel staff wasn't an issue as there were always plently of staff in the bar that where willing to help.

I would highly recommend this hotel to friends, we're already planning our next trip. Thanks to niall and staff for making us feel so welcome.

This hotel is located above a pub so noise is definately a factor. I was prepared for the pub noise but not prepared for the trash pick up at 7am in the morning - very loud. Also, parking is in a garage a couple blocks away and cost you about 11 euro a night. I believe you can park on the street but it's not clear where you can and can't park. The room was VERY tiny(but also very clean). I wouldn't mind but the price isn't any cheaper really once you add in the extra cost for parking and breakfast is not included. What I disliked most was that there is no real hotel staff - just the guys that work at the pub (and he was very nice and the pub is fun for sure). No phone in the room, in the morning we were to leave our door open and the key in the room because there is no staff to check us out. If you want breakfast you have to tell them the night before and they leave it out for you at the bar. I was terrified that we would accidentally leave something in the room on check out and then not be able to get back in because there was no staff on sight to call etc. Overall this hotel was noisy but clean and would be much more acceptable if it was cheaper and would be better for a young single traveler. We are a 30s something couple who love to have some pints (and some Jameson) but thought it was way too pricey for what you got. You won't be able to get any sleep unless you literally pass out from drinking. Oh and no alarm clock either!

On the plus side - the pub is very lively and fun - they had live traditional Irish music being performed. I would suggest visiting the pub vs. staying there

My wife and I booked this gem and had no issues sleeping in our room (suite, third floor, room 8, €100) which has white-washed walls, a shower, sink and toilet as well as a closet, love seat and table (see photos). You can open the door and step out onto the balcony overlooking the Hauptstraße and kip the window as well. You'll find Rolladen shades on the door and the window which can block out noise and the sun.

While a previous guest has complained about the time it took to check-in and the lack of service from the "hotel" (a glass of water) most travelers who have dealt with small hotels/inns/pensions in Europe will appreciate what the Dubliner has to offer (We Americans can be a little snobbish ourselves). This is NOT a full scale hotel. It is a room on the world famous mile long Heidelberg Hauptstraße! It provides unequalled access to the Hauptstraße and the Heidelberger Schloss. Don't come to this hotel expecting turn down service. Come to this hotel for its location to the prime spots in the heart of the shopping/tourist district. (The closest Holiday Inn is in 14km south if you want that, but then you would miss meeting Kevin and Niall and a great room!)

You'll find that in order to get to the third floor you'll have to climb 70 winding steps. It can be cumbersome to bring your bags up. Do as we did and pack a few small carry-on type bags for this stay the night before in your previous hotel room and leave the large bags in the trunk of your car (if you have the space) else carry them all up the 70 steps (there is not lift to the third floor). The room ( #8) is clean and tidy. You can park in either public parking garage #8 or 9. You'll pay about 13€ a day. (HINT; if you can locate the street, pull up to the Hauptstraße using Friedrichstraße which is located off of Plock and parking garage #9. It is a dead end street in the hauptstraße and will allow you to off-load your bags from your car just about at the front door of the Dubliner.

(see map: http://maps.google.com/maps?sourceid=navclient&rlz=1T4GGIH_enUS280US280&q=Hauptstrasse+93,+Heidelberg+69117,+Germany&um=1&ie=UTF-8&split=0&gl=us&ei=TEAwSuKPC6fitAOm0N3DAw&sa=X&oi=geocode_result&ct=title&resnum=1)

Kevin (Bar staff) was very nice and Niall (the owner) is a great guy. You'll find plenty to do in the area and will be glad that you picked this location for the views and access to all of the great spots on the Heidelberg Hauptstraße. Check out time is 1200 and you'll find Niall most likely when you do. The pub is not open early so if you need to leave earlier than 1100 or so, tell the staff ahead of time so you can make arrangements to leave the keys.

First of all I want to say we are a young couple in our late 20's and we do enjoy partying and having a few drinks. We also like to come back to our room and have peace and quiet when were finished. It felt like we never left the bar. We rented a double room which was on the 2nd floor street side. Which I thought was very nice when we arrived. Boy were we in for a surprise.... The night club/bar was playing music so loud that it was vibrating the walls until about 3am along with the street noise until about 5am. We tried closing the windows to muffle some of the street noise and that only made the room hot and very uncomfortable. So it was deal with the noise or sweat.
When you arrive there's no place to check in, we had to wait for about 20 minutes for the bartender to stop making drinks and check us in. Standing in the middle of a busy bar with our luggage for 20 minutes was not very fun.
The hotel location was great, but to park is a few blocks away.
Rooms are clean and nice.
Food was excellent, except after paying for dinner and drinks and a hotel room my bf wanted a glass of water and thought it was kinda nasty of them that they weren't allowed to give a glass of water, that you had to pay for a whole bottle. Service was ok after asking for what you wanted 2-3 times and waiting 15 minutes for a beer.
Breakfast was your typical meats, cheeses, bread and fruit. Nothing special.
We wouldn't stay here again because of the noise and the room was to hot.
