Located a stones-throw from BismarckPlatz (the main bus/tram hub) this is an ideal spot from which to explore the Old Town. The area feels completely secure. It suited me perfectly.

Golden Rose has comfortable, complete and clean rooms that have a recent feel. Staff are genuinely first-class. Did I mention the breakfast …? (See below)

Through some odd architectural twist, the Hotel seems to have an atrium, where some cars are parked, and several wings. One wing heads towards the Hauptstrasse pedestrian area, in fact our window overlooked it. This wing is serviced by a 3-person lift. The other wing, including the breakfast room, is accessed by stairs. There seem to be larger rooms there. Make your preference known at booking, I guess.

The breakfast is the best presented and widest variety of any ‘continental’ spread I can recall. The same can be said of the breakfast service. Breakfast is a banquet experience and reason enough to stay there.

Room tip: Room 25 overlooked the back garden and was very quiet.

After a lot of travelling we decided to treat ourselves. And we did. Great location although we did have a little trouble locating it, not on the main road as the address implies, but on a lane close behind. We booked two standard rooms and we're pleased to have one upgraded. Both were good size, the upgraded room with a full size bath and generous bathroom. Comfortable bed and friendly staff. There is off street parking but you must book it and it's not free.

Room tip: Very small lift, maximum three people so not good for a lot of luggage

The hotel is conveniently located about halfway between the train station and the center of the old town. We were surprised by how spacious our room was. The facilities were also very modern and the staff were helpful. Would recommend.

This three star hotel is hidden in a small side street right off of the Hauptstraße (the main street in the shopping district). It's near the Bismarkplatz. So, very centrally located. The furnishings and decorations are, partially, a bit kitschy but still very tasteful and for the most part modern. The rooms are quiet and clean. The staff is very friendly. They have a great breakfast buffet. The hotel offers a lot for a 3-star, like free tea and a water boiler, as well as slippers, bathrobe and other services on request. One of the best features: they offer valet parking - a rarity in Heidelberg.

Hotel Goldene Rose is a small hotel, and it is definitely vintage and has its own style - which you may like or not. Having said that the only fault we could find was the lack of air conditioning in the rooms. We stayed two nights - the first night the receptionist told us it was impossible to get a fan and we had to leave the window open, otherwise it would have been impossible to stay in the room. Downside of the open window: impossible to sleep. We thought it was amazing how much noise and what kind of noise people made in the pedestrian zone until the morning hours. Actually, we didn’t sleep a wink until 6 am. The second night was a lot better. The ‘morning receptionist’ had two fans delivered to the hotel, which made all the difference for the second night.
Otherwise, the Goldene Rose is a great place to stay. The breakfast buffet is excellent, some five star hotels could be proud of a similar choice for breakfast. The hotel is exceptionally clean, the location at the beginning of the pedestrian zone unbeatable.
Access to the small parking is difficult, but the staff - who all throughout the hotel were generally great, professional and friendly - will manoeuvre your car in and out without any problems.
