“parking for your rental car”
Reviewed June 21, 2012

THere is limited parking for your rental car here. You need to make reservations ahead of time for your car however. We were fascinated with how they managed to get the cars into such a tight place. But this hotel is on the outskirst of the old town and required that we take a bus from the main station a block away to the sights we wanted to see, which wasted quite a bit of time. If you have a rental car, there is really no choice, as cars are not allowed (except with permit) in the large old town. If you don't have a rental car, stay close to the heart of old town, near the bridge. But the hotel itself was fine and had a good breakfast. The train station had some homeless, and so the ambience was not what we hoped for. But we needed a place to park and this fit the bill nicely.

Room Tip: Get a room on the first floor as there is no elevator as promised.

Hotel Goldene Rose was a wonderful experience in this lovely city.
Situated close to the local tram line, personnel were excellent and the breakfast truly superb!
Our nice room overlooked a courtyard & we were serenaded by a nightingale in the evening.

We enjoyed Heidelberg and would readily return to the Goldene Rose.

Danke sehr! Thank you, Merci!

The Goldene Rose is conveniently located in the first sidestreet off Hauptstrasse (a nice, pedestrian street where all the shops are which takes you to the church). It's very close to Bismarckplatz (taxi rank, bus / tram), too. Very good value for money, I highly recommend this hotel.

HOTEL

The hotel consists of 2 buildings sharing an inner courtyard. The rooms in the outer building (the facade shown on the pictures, overlooking Sankta Anna Gasse) has been under continuous refurbishment when I stayed there - they were replacing the carpets etc. The other building (where the breakfast room is located) is already fully renovated. In the yard at least 10+ cars can be parked (the hotel staff takes care of parking because they need to reverse back through this incredibly narrow arcade).

ROOM

I have stayed in both buildings, but strongly prefer the inner buildling where the refurbishment is alredy complete. Huge and modern bathrooms with a shower and a tub, comforable bed, coffe machine (not Nespresso, but very fancy). The wifi was working flawlessly all the time.

SERVICE

The nicest hotel staff I have ever seen. Room privacy has always been respected if I left out the sign on the door. The ladies at the breakfast remembered how I like my coffee, always smiling, very polite. Booking was always quick and smooth - my emails were answered in no time. It was always impressed to see how neatly they did the valet parking - shoehorning all those cars into the yard.

BREAKFAST

Well, the breakfast is to die for. The quality and the quantity is overwhelming, and the presentation made me feel like I am in a palace in Dubai. Several different kinds of bread (white, brown, toast, healthy one with lots of grains), muesli, corn flakes, fruits (passionfruit, mango, melons, strawberries, kiwi, grapefruit...), cheeses (at least 8-10), ham & co., strong coffee, orange and grapefruit juice - check out the photos I uploaded.

Room Tip: My favourite was room 11 (see the attached photos) - it has a door to a small inner yard with a chai...

Really nice little boutique hotel located just around the corner from the Haupstrasse, the mile long shopping street, near the Bismarkplatz. Arrived almost 2 hours before check in during the Christmas Market but the front desk was very nice and accommodating. They were able to get us in a room right away. Thoroughly enjoyed my stay. Very clean room and bathroom, a little small but no problem. The buffet breakfast is exactly as it shows on the website and really good, they will even make eggs any way you request. Have to say everyone who staffed the 24hr front desk was extremely helpful and cheerful. Service above and beyond. They even called the company I bought my sim card from because I was having trouble activating it. They were also able to provide a hot water pot for my room. Very central but not noisy, we were on the 4th floor in the section with the small 2 person elevator. Quick walk to the buses and trams. Will definitely go back if in Heidelberg again. Thank you Hotel Goldene Rose for a great experience!

Stayed for 5 days in a "cosy" single room (# 14) which was really efficient enough. A lot of wardrobe space and nice en-suite bathroom.
The best however is the central location near the Haupstrasse and the buffet breakfast.
I will certainly return.
