“Efficient restaurant ..”
Reviewed March 22, 2012

Selected this place for a business dinner for a group of 8 people. We had various dietary requirements. Some wanted Game meat, couple were vegan, one Muslim and so on. :-)
they catered to all of our requirements very efficiently. The taste of the food itself was not all that great but it was not bad either. Its an elaborate restaurant and most of the other patrons in the restaurant were in formal attire.
The location is fantastic.

“The only good thing is the location...”
Reviewed June 15, 2010

Sorry to have to pan this venerable hotel, but our recent 4-day stay in 3 different rooms was not pleasant. The location is great in the heart of tourist Heidelberg, but the hotel is simply too noisy. All 3 of our rooms opened onto an airless, pigeon-infested air shaft that connected to the dish room of the restaurant. They did dishes (loudly and constantly) from 6 am to midnight, including Sunday. That, coupled with the clock tower chimes every 15 minutes all night long meant very little sleep. Especially since there is no air conditioning and the windows must be open to keep from boiling. The beds were not comfortable, there was no room to open suitcases, and no dresser or drawers into which to unpack. The main elevator was broken and the staff did not show us the service elevator, leaving us to haul our heavy suitcases and 86-year old mother up many staircases.

“Upgraded Room Worth the $$!”
Reviewed January 25, 2008

We choose a suite for the new year's eve weekend and it was fantastic! We had an entirely separate sitting area with couch and desk. The TV could swivel so you could choose to watch from the sitting room or the bed. The bathroom was huge and very modern with a heated towel rack and a pleasant walk-in shower. The room was so cozy that you didn't want to leave it!

The location is wonderful in the center of the pedestrian zone and easily within walking distance to dozens of dining possibilities, including delicious breakfast options. You're not confined to the hotel breakfast unless you want to be! Fortunately you are able to drive right up to the hotel to load/unload luggage and there's a nearby parking garage for 8 euro/day.

The New Year's Eve dinner for 100 Euro/ per person, was a disappointment. The food was okay but not overwhelming. Severely lacking was the hospitality. There wasn't much of a celebratory mood and our waitress refused to take a picture of us when we asked her. I sensed that they couldn't wait for us to leave. I've never had my dishes cleared so fast in Europe where they traditionally let you sit for hours! I expected more for that price...

Overall, I would definitely recommend the hotel - not the restaurant.

“Forget The Romance”
Reviewed August 20, 2006

The weather was hot and the hotel is not airconditioned. It was essential to keep the windows opened. The best rooms face the street with the Cathederal immediately opposite. The bells chime every quarter hour and go into frenzy at midnight. Add to that the noise from inebriated tourists in the wee small hours and the restrauant guests dining outside just below our window. Morning comes and that's not the finish - the garbage trucks start at 5am closely followed by an army of other commercial vehicles. A planned three day visit lasted only one night (another reason not to pre-pay if booking with agencies). The tiny lift induced immediate clustrophobia particularly as the exit door on our floor was covered in blue plastic (had we arrived or was it a building site?).
