“Another typical budget hotel”
3 of 5 bubbles Reviewed February 25, 2010

It's funny - even though this hotel is thousands of miles away from the USA, it still smells like an old, 70's US Holiday Inn. Maybe it's the carpets?
Room was small, decor is clearly in need of a refresh. Out in the middle of nowhere but there is a small petrol station shop next door so you can get a bottle of water for a fraction of the price that they sell it in the rooms.

Holiday Inn, Heidelberg is well located in the centre of the city of Heidelberg with a stones throw from the railway station and a bus station. For all people going to Waldorf this location is suitable for stay. The food is very good and the place is very close to the city centre. Ideally suitable for people on holiday

We stayed here as a last minute changed advised to us on route by our travel agent, who let us know that our previously booked accomodation had closed down. As Holiday inns in Australia have a good reputattion, we had high expectations. Whilst we weren't totally kle down, it ws a bit more basic than expected, but was clean and reasonably liveble for the price.
the minuses-It's starting to look a bit worn, the staff weren't particularly helpful, the advertised Gym was pretty small and ill equipped. You nedd a car as it's 10 minutes drive to the town centre. They charge additional for parking, which is a bit over the top for somewhere in the outskirts/almost country with plenaty of space around.
The pluses-clean, reasonably comfortable and we enjoyed the breakfasts greatly.
Heidelberg is a nice quaint historic town, but at the time of year we were there, was hot and fiull of tourists. I'd recommend visiting the Schloss via the funicular railway. Very picturesque. We also ate lunch at a beer hall type tavern-very touristy and reasonablt expensive, but nice food and beer. We ate dinner at a restaurant in the newer part of town. It was in a shoppingcentre, but appeared to be where students ate and was very reasonably priced.

I booked this hotel as it was one of two listed by my normally excellent London travel agent.
First my GPS kept taking me to the Crowne Plaza in downtown Heidelberg. I later heard that this used to be called Holiday Inn. Blame the problem Navi fitted to my Hertz rental.
The Holiday In under review is a couple of Km outside of town - they reckoned a €12-15 cab ride which was NOT what I wanted and this meant that to dine I had to drive into Heidelberg and use a Parking structure - which wasn't that expensive but it prevented me from indulging in a few beers.
The room was small by any standard and way below what I expected from a 4 star place. I did get additional pillows within minutes of requesting them.
On the plus side the late bar was friendly and apparently happy to stay open for as long as we wanted.
To add an element of insult why is an out-of-town hotel charging €8 per night for parking? I have told Trailfinders that this hotel needs to be reviewed and maybe even dropped from their system.

traveling with my husband, young child and teenaged child, we stopped at this holiday inn because we'd planned (or really not planned well obviously) to stop overnight in the Black Forest, I think it was Neuburg am Rhein....we drove around their zentrum and then the Karlsrhue zentrum and could find no accommodations so we decided to head home to Eindhoven. After a couple of hours it was apparent that my hubby was OVER driving so we stopped at the Holiday Inn Heidelberg and were very pleased. Being Americans living in Europe, we've sort of gotten used to inconsistency, particularly as it pertains to hotels but this was just your plain old regular Holiday Inn. The front counter was great, the room was very nicely sized particularly compared to what we're used to here. The request for extra pillows was met by an irritated male member of the staff. Overall the hotel was nice, clean, pleasant, and of good value. I would absolutely recommend it... not for a vacation destination necessarily (it's near the highway and about 10 minutes to zentrum), but certainly fine for a long weekend of exploring the town.

Clean room, nice and friendly English-speaking staff as well. Comfortable bed allowed for a great night's sleep. However, it's at least a 45 minute walk to the city center, (I walked there, but took a taxi back). A taxi ride to the city center is about 11 Euros....not bad.

This was a great hotel! The room was very clean and modern. The bathroom is also very nice. We got an amazing price for 55 Euro's on this room. 5 to 10 minute drive to the Hauptstrasse. Would stay there again!
