Situated on a side street near the University in Heidelberg. Up a flight of stairs are the rooms of the old student jail which were used from the late 1700's until 1914. Not a strict jail but one where the students could actually move from room to room. The rooms are decorated with writings, drawings, and portraits. One narrow room has the hole used as a washroom! Interesting maybe but not exciting.
It's a cute place but not worth the trouble of getting there. If your in Heidelberg and already seen the Castle it's worth passing buy on your way home .
Well worth the entrance fee - pick up an audio guide to make the most of your visit. Although small, the student jail offers a fascinating insight into a slice of Heidelberg's past!
Has curious paintings and graffiti of past Heidelberg Univerity studebnts of the 1800s. Located by the Old University Building.
Visited this prison as a part of Old City tour. It is a 17th Century jail, really not like jail where the unruly students were kept from few days to few months. They were allowed to meet friends as visitors. Interesting stories. No mention of any person who spent time here and later became a celebrity.
