“Nice hotel for visiting city of Heidelberg”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 12, 2012

The hotel is situated in the city of Heidelberg, approx. 15 minutes walk from the main street with all the shops and restaurants. It has a parking next to the hotel. The rooms are good and clean. The staff at the hotel is friendly and will help you whereever it is possible. Although the hotel is next to a big road and we had a room on the street side, there was no noise during nights (even with window open as it was in the summer with warm weather). The hotel serves a good breakfast, but please be on time. From Monday to Saturday the breakfast is served until 10.00 hrs, we were there on time, but the waiter told us to make sure we had all our food on the table before 10.00 hrs as otherwise the breakfast is closed and you cannot take something more from the buffet. I would say, just close the door of the breakfast room to avoid that other/new people are entering and the people sitting there already can have breakfast without any hurry. The hotel also has a restaurant, we did not eat there but took some of the nice restaurants in the city center for dinner. It is absolutely a good hotel for a city trip to Heidelberg.

We chose this hotel because we could walk to the train station in about 5 mins. Overall, the hotel is what you expect from a basic business hotel

The biggest fltower found is the distance to the main part of town. While it's just a 10 min walk to the start of the main pedestrian street, it's quite far from the Markt Platz and Castle (20-30 mins).

The hotel restaurant is pricey for all meals, but there is more than one bakery/cafe just two blocks away for breakfast. We had dinner on the nearest corner at "Merlin" which was good, inexpensive, and full if locals (not tourists).

We stayed here for one night while touring. Lovely hotel - room was large, well equipped, and very quiet at night as we overloooked the gardens in a residential area. Breakfast was included in our package and was substantial and varied. We did not find the walk to the old part of the town too excessive at around fifteen minutes. As we stayed for only one night the fee for the car park did not worry us and it was good to have the peace of mind of having the car securely tucked away. The hotel staff were friendly, helpful and efficient. We would certainly use this hotel again.

Hotel is a former brewery (something to brag about next time I'm talking to friends in a pub !). The exterior has been largely kept in traditional style, but the interior is all modern. The chain that owns the hotel had a 3 day flash half-price sale, so stayed here rather than thinking about anywhere else. Reception was both efficient and helpful - e.g. finding out information (and getting it accurate) about the bus to the airport the next day.
The layout of the floors with the rooms is a bit of a maze - just have to follow the signs to find your room. The rooms themselves are absolutely find, if slightly identikit. Bed was fine, along with bathroom, TV, minibar, plenty of cupboards. Breakfast was 20 euros extra - it may have been excellent, but decided to go for a croissant at a cafe nearby instead.

The hotel is about 7 mins walk from the station - you really need a map the first time, but once you've found the hotel, it's much easier to find your way to the station. The only annoying thing, is that the hotel is not near the tourist sights - it's about a 15 min walk to something you'd want to take a photo of. That said, the walk to the castle is simple - come out of the hotel, turn right along the main road and keep going. Fine if you're in town for business tho

There are a few restaurants and coffee bars near the hotel, so you won't starve !

Did the job, and would go back,

We were pleasantly surprised by the size of the room. It had a separate closet area and items like microwave oven that you would usually associate with a service apartment. View was minimal even though we were on level 3. Breakfast was included in our package. It was substantial with a wide range of hot and cold items.

The main downside was the distance to the old part of town where most tourists would love to go. Its a good 10-15 minutes walk. Which is ok during the morning but can be tiring at night when all you want is a bed to get into. The other challenge we faced was that there was no supermarket or cafe nearby. So if you don't eat breakfast in the hotel you will need to go hungry for a while. Wifi was not free (when will European hotels wake up to this!) and parking very expensive at Euro 17 per day. That was a rip-off specially since we were not in downtown.

Will I stay here again? maybe not. To me as a tourist accessibility to the sights and food options are important. However, as a business traveller I may not mind.

Room Tip: Try and include breakfast in the package.

We had a special weekend rate and had a room in the new part of the hotel. The room was very spacious and well-equipped with comfortable beds. We were amazed how quiet it was even though the hotel itself is on a very busy street. Good location as well - it was only a 15-minute walk to Bismarckplatz, where the historical old town starts.
Parking in the hotel's garage costs 17 Euros per night, which we found overpriced. Unfortunately, all the streets around the hotel are resident-only parking, so you don't really have an option.
Breakfast was not included in our room rate, and we decided not to pay 20 Euros per person for the hotel breakfast. Lots of places nearby for breakfast, from small corner bakery to cafes with good breakfast and brunch options.

The layout of the building is complicated - I had a hard time finding my room that is on the wing + it was no fun dragging your lugagge up and down the stairs. Interior of the room is gorgeous nevertheless with high celing and gorgeous wallpaper. Location is really good with nice bars round the corner. Shame they do not provide free wifi.
