“Just as good as ever”
Reviewed September 26, 2013

We had stayed a couple of nights here in June to check out the hotel as we'd booked to take family back in September. We arrived fairly weary expecting to be too early to check in but our rooms had already been prepared and we were given a glass of prosecco while we checked in. Our rooms were all delightful and the hotel had remembered all our requests and made every effort to meet them. Our family were delighted with their rooms and despite our description of the breakfast they were amazed and delighted . Breakfast is expensive but quite frankly given the extent of the food, the quality and the ability to produce pretty much anything (including porridge which wasnt on the menu!) it's actually good value. You really don't need lunch

Hotel was comfy and relaxing and the staff were incredibly helpful and friendly - including lending us a guide book and suggesting trips out, meeting us on our return to ask if we'd enjoyed them etc. I'd highly recommend this hotel

Room Tip: Email the hotel with your requirements and they'll do their best to match/advise

My daughter and I spent 4 nights at this lovely quaint hotel in beautiful Heidelberg. We had a deluxe suite which consisted of a living room, large bathroom with jacuzzi bath and shower and good size twin bedroom. We found the suite very comfortable and an ideal base for our visit. The rooms were tastefully decorated Laura Ashley style- however the decor did make the rooms a little dark, perhaps other rooms would have been lighter.
The staff were very friendly and went out out of their way to assist. I thought the suite was very good value, we didn't try the restaurant as that was very expensive, but it does have good reviews.
The hotel is ideally situated on the other side of the river to the Alt Stadt which is only a few minutes walk away.

Room Tip: Book directly on their website to get the best room price- we got 4 nights for the price of 3.

My husband and I spent the first days of our honeymoon at Die Hirschgasse. When we arrived we were told that the jacuzzi in the suite that we booked did not work so we were offered another suite "the only one with direct access to the garden". We were really happy with it! Spacious and romantic with a nice bathroom. An extra gold star for the name tag on the door to the room!

The staff was extremely professional, always there when you needed them and catered to all our needs. Very service minded, social and kind.

We had breakfast (Butler buffet) three times and dinner (in the traditional German restaurant) two times. All meals met up to our expectations and especially the last meal of our stay was extra good.

I would recommend a stay at Die Hirschgasse if you are looking for a quiet hotel with that little extra. The location of the hotel is perfect if you want to get away from the buzz of the city but still have everything within 5-10 minutes walking distance. Cleaning of the room was good and the bed was really comfortable and nice.

We stayed here for one night as a family in early July. Positives: like the location just outside town and all the tourists, very nice woman checked us in and carried our bags up and showed us our room, dinner at the restaurant (not the gourmet one) was good and atmospheric dining room but service seemed preoccupied with the gourmet dining room nearby and was very slow. Also good was nice setting to have a cocktail outside on the terrace. Areas of improvement: room was comfortable beds but threadbare carpet, low ceilings and windows looking out into a dirt wall and felt like it could use freshening/updating particularly for the price. Also WIFI not included and very erratic. Overall it was okay but not among our favorites during our trip to Germany.

Dear Kim00,

"Could be better" - that's one of my favourite quotes, because there is always room for improvement.

One of the highlights of your room was that it is one of the coldest rooms in the whole house. With the terrible heat wave this July, we tried to place as much customers preferably into this room as possible. Perhaps the lady who checked you in should have brought this advantage to your attention better. Wi-Fi is included meanwhile. Since then customers all of a sudden have 6(p.p.!) devices they need net free access for. The "dirt" wall? Well, a trompe au l'oeil might be an idea. What picture should we put on it - any suggestions?

Regarding the service times I might guess, that you have not reserved well beforehand? Also, if the Gourmet Restaurant is well booked then of course we have to serve according to order and in ranking of placed reservations. We have therefore focussed more on straightening out the reservation time windows, so we have fewer peaks to squeeze through.

Now, we only have to squeeze through the doors, after having had too much Christmas Turkey - Have a Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year.

Looking forward to your next visit - I remain with best regards,
Ernest Kraft

We had a very enjoyable night at the Hirschgasse in July 2013. The room (the Rose Suite) was dominated by a chintzy four poster bed which combined with the decor was (pleasingly) reminiscent of a 70s English guest house. The suite also had a substantial separate drawing room and the bathroom (with separate room for the loo) was enormous. The only downside was that there was no air-con which was rather challenging as it was very hot. The hotel is in a quiet location on the opposite bank of the Neckar to the city, but within easy walking distance. We enjoyed a first class dinner in the hotel's Gourmet Restaurant - in my humble opinion it should have a star but perhaps that's yet to come. The breakfast was substantial and extremely lavish. I would recommend this wholeheartedly, as long as you are not dependent on air-con for a comfortable night's sleep.

Dear Felicity,

Thank you very much for your very positive feed back - you understand the Hirschgasses cultural task very well.

As to the terribly hot July, which was not only our problem, but whole Europe was moaning and groaning under these enourmos temperatures. Well, Jane Austen would perhaps have recommended to take a cold shower, but that is not everybodys cup of tea. We recommend splendid panorama walks in the very near cool woods, which start behind our house.

You have a very good understanding of fine food! We have been actually awarded with a Michelin star just a couple of weeks ago in the new Michelin guide 2014. So, you anticipated it long before - thank you for sharing your expertise with the other readers.

I remain with very best regards and hope to welcome you back soon in the Hirschgasse Heidelberg.

You can't be one of the small luxury hotels of the world without airconditioning or good housekeeping.!once again we boiled in this hotel with low ceilings and no airconditioning .the spa bath jets were filthy and had silver fish as non paying guests. When paying $650us for two nights internet should be included not the 15euros per day extra as charged by this self rated hotel which is no more than a tricked up worn out place playing off a Mark Twain? Scratched table top.overall very disappointing. Would not recommend.

Thank you for the comment, which we try to turn into positive cognition.

Wifi has been changed meanwhile to a free offer for our house guests. Due to the unnecessary sharpness of your lines we will not comment deeper. Thank you for your stay.

Spontaneously planned to go for a weekend to Heidelberg. Based on the reviews on tripadvisor we chose this hotel.

Couple of comments:
- location is fantastic, quiet but very close to the old city where everything is happening
- atmosphere is great, this place is over 500 years old
- rooms are nice, cosy, great atmosphere, nice bathroom, great bed
- staff is over-friendly in a nice way
- breakfast is expensive but amazing, worth every eurocent, ask for anything and they will prepare it

So, what else is there to say, we will be going to this place again!

Dear Renehorsch,

This is really exiting..! Two guests in a row comment very positively and recommend our butler breakfast highly. Thank you so much to recognize quality - this will make our day and confirm to our staff their efforts how we are doing it. Is this perhaps an avalanche that all other guest will also be curious to try the breakfast – let’s see if others follow your recommendation as well?

By the way, you can also book the butler breakfast directly over our HIRSCHGASSE OFFICIAL HOMEPAGE. Here you have the option to select interesting packages and best rates and book the breakfast as an early bird add-on and SAVE on WiFi costs. Plus choose one free gift.

We love to welcome you back and wish for better weather. Thank you again for spreading the word!
