This hotel is in the middle of it all!! My husband and I stayed here on his business trip in May 2012. It was close to everything we needed: I walked alone to restaurants, shops, and some museums, while my husband took a taxi or walked to work each day. This hotel is within the shortest walking distance to the castle and funicular, hotel is directly in front of the Old Bridge, one block from the Holy Ghost church, and is along many cobblestone streets that are slightly more quiet then being directly on the busy Haupstrasse. I totally recommend this location if you want to see a lot in a short amount of time. Also, the staff here is excellent! They spoke perfect English which made me feel comfortable because I don't know any German. They offer breakfast every day at an extra cost however the convenience is worth the price. They offer both dry-cleaning and laundry services, we dropped a bag of laundry off in the morning and it by 5pm in the afternoon it was sitting on our bed all fresh and clean! Our room, #350, has a king bed, 2 nightstands, desk, tv, couch that pulls out to a bed, little table and 2 chairs. This room was like 2 small rooms together, so the couch has a wall separating the bed. Plenty of space for 2 adults. The bathroom was small but not a problem because it had all the amenities you need, even hairdryer. Bonus for this room is it has 2 large windows with electric blinds that black out the sun. Also, even though this room didn't have air conditioning the staff set 2 large fans in our room however we didn't need them because this room faces north and gets a lot of shade. If you are looking to do anything on the other side of town there are a few close bus stops to this hotel, but it's not convenient. But that's a good thing, you won't hear much traffic noise at this hotel, because remember you will need your windows open here in the summer/spring. Each time we needed to get to the train station we took a taxi since this hotel has a taxi stand very close by. This hotel has very nice historic details and is a must experience when in Heidelberg, Germany!

The staff was very friendly and spoke perfect English. The hotel could use some updating, the rooms and decor seemed out of date. We had a small double with a very small bath. We live in Europe so understand the bath will not be US size but this was too small. Our room was on the side street and across the street was a bar restuarant where it was noisy until 2 - 3 am, ask for a room somewhwere else.

Stayed for 2 nights in May '12. Our room overlooked River Nektar with stunning views of Heidelberg. Reception staff very welcoming. Room clean and comfortable - furnishings a bit 'old fashioned' but this is a plus as it adds to overall character and atmosphere of hotel - especially the comfort of a beautiful chaise-longue. Hotel in great location - a few steps to all the sights, cafes and restaurants.

Room Tip: Room with river view was stunning.

We stayed here 2 years ago when I was working locally, so luckily I was working in the area again and it coincided with our Wedding Anniversary.

Having a River Neckar view room gives a terrific view of the Old Bridge as shown in all the photos of Heidelberg.

The Hotel is right in the centre of the Old City, so it is a pleasant walk to everything there is to see. The Breakfast is terrific, it well sets you up for a full day of sightseeing.

We hope we will keep coming back.

Room Tip: Pay that little bit extra for a River view, it is well worth it.

The room in this hotel (#228) is not fancy nor hugh, but it has the one thing we need, accessability. The bathrom is wonderful with plenty of room to manuever the chair. The mirror lowers so a person in a wheelchair can easily use it. The mattresses in the room were some of the best we have slept on, and the free wifi was very good in room. We do not take breakfast so I can make no comment here. Good restaurants are located within 500 ft.

The hotel room looks right over the Alte Bruche, OLD BRIDGE, and is wonderfully located to tour Heidelberg. Both Anke & Katja were most helpfull at the reception desk, answering questions, helping with the lift etc. These two employees are a true asset to this property. We stayed here two years ago and the quality has been WELL maintained. Next time in Heidelberg, we will be back. Thanks agian Katja & Anke!!

The hotel location is perfect. It is right next to Heidelberg's famous bridge, easily within walking distance from the aldstadt (old town). Covered, public, parking is within a few minutes walking, and validated by the hotel so you get a discounted rate (8 euros per day). The breakfast selection is very good. They have two options: full buffet (12 euro), or business breakfast (5 euro). The business breakfast includes 2 rolls, a few slices of cut meats/cheese, 1 cup of juice, 1 cup of hot drink (coffee, tea). The buffet is all you can eat and has a nice selection of rolls, meats, veggies, fruits, cereals, eggs, bacon, juices, yogurts. The women who worked the reception were extremely efficient and helpful, providing maps, directions, etc.

The reason why I give only a 3 rating, however, is because of the facilities. The building needs to be significantly renovated. The room size was fine, but the floor in our room had a distinctive SLANT so much so that I felt I was walking up hill to get to the bathroom. The flooring is thin worn grungy carpet. And the floor creaks loudly. The furnishings were cheaper type utilitarian. There was no view from our room, just a very small window, from which we could hear loud carousing when folks walked by drunk at night. Even with it closed. The bathroom WAS renovated, but there was little water pressure in the shower and the lights were blaring. The bed was typically European firm (two twins pushed together) but the pillows were goose down and had no structure, so I was pretty uncomfortable. Plus with the slant on the floor, I felt I was rolling out of the bed as well. I asked for add'l pillows, which they had only a few, also the same kind. Also, note that the elevator doesn't go all the way up to the top floor. I was on the 4th floor (top floor the lift stopped at) but there were slanted stairs to walk up further. And also the walls are paper thin. I believe the staff tried to keep the guests separated as much as possible, but I could easily hear the conversations and movements of others in the next room. They have a nice little reading room downstairs next to the reception desk, which was nice place to wait while we were meeting others. BTW, there is a great Chinese restaurant literally next door if you're interested.

I really liked the location of this hotel, I liked the food, the staff, but I am not sure I would go back unless I had a room with a view.

Room Tip: Request a room with a view. There are only a few that look toward the river.

This was our first holiday in Germany, and we were so glad that we chose the Hollander Hof in Heidelberg. We flew direct from Aberdeen to Franfurt and took the Lufthansa Shuttle Bus from the airport to Heidelberg (1 hour). The location of the hotel was great, within walking distance of all the places we wanted to see in the old town. Our room was at the back of the hotel, but we had a view up to the castle which we visited on our first day. We took the bus up to the castle and walked back down. On the next day we went across the bridge and up the steep path to the Philosophers Walk, a good surfaced track with wonderful views, and in the afternoon had a leisurely boat trip on the Neckar. There are plenty of places to eat close to the hotel and we were pleasantly surprised at the reasonable prices. We are vegetarian and sometimes this can be tricky when abroad but we had no problems in Heidelberg. We would highly recommend a trip to Schwetzingen (30 minutes on the bus from the Heidelberg bus station) the Palace Gardens are wonderful and there is a nice little restaurant just inside the entrance. The staff at the Hollander Hof were without exception pleasant, friendly and helpful, as were people generally in Heidelberg and this increased our enjoyment of our holiday. The breakfast was excellent with a great choice although a little bit pricey at 12 euros each per day, however it did set us up for the day!
