This is an old hotel, with an old-world charm. If you have the budget, like being in the centre of town amidst the bustle of this student friendly city, then this hotel is great.

The only drawback with the hotel were the boiling hot rooms. When we asked the concierge to fix this they said that until the end of April the central air conditioning blows only hot air and then May to September is cool air. April in Germany is far from very cold, so blowing hot air into the room was absolute hell. Once we knew this, we turned the air con off, opened out the windows and just enjoyed the naturally fresh cool spring air. It was noisy, since the hotel is downtown, so beware this drawback if you like your windows open when you sleep.

The breakfast is plentiful, delicious and the staff is very warm and helpful.

Room Tip: All twin rooms are standard - they don't do any luxury twin rooms. A bit of a cop out if you'...

Last night in Europe before going home from Frankfurt. We booked a suite which was luxurious, spacious and comfortable. The staff were helpful, friendly and knowledgeable and seemed genuinely interested in ensuring we were satisfied with their service. In fact, they were servicing an extremely rude couple from USA (of course) when we arrive and no matter how rude they were to the staff, the staff just kept being pleasant and helpful until they finally booked in and went to their room. The couple's main complaint was the staff's English which I found perfectly understandable. The fact they were in Germany was lost on the USA couple. Just as side story.

It was raining at dinner time so we thought we would dine at the hotel. There were two dinning areas and both were almost empty except for a few people who did not want to brave the elements. One look at the menu and it was clear why the restaurants were empty. The meals were not enticing and extremely expensive. We asked the concierge for an alternative and they reluctantly suggested a few Italian restaurants with in a 5 minutes walk. Italian restaurants in Germany goes against my principles, however, we decided on Akademie, which was excellent.

Room Tip: Book a suite if possible.

I've been coming here continually since 1996. That probably says it all.
Heidelberg is where I stay when I have business in Frankfurt , about 100 km away along the autobahn, or down in Walldorf where a large software company is located nearby.
This hotel is absolutely beautiful. It really shows off the good parts of older German culture - simply superb furnishing in the common areas; outstanding ambience; totally relaxing and well located.
There are few hotels that I say; 'you must stay here', but really you must.
It is a glorious alternative to the chain hotels - there is a Holiday Inn in town - and is unique; culturally satisfying.
The breakfasts in the dining room are fine. I've never eaten at other times in the hotel because I'm out for lunch elsewhere or at local and surrounding area's restaurants for dinner, but I'm told by friends that the food is great.
I feel really comfortable here. There is a bar in the hotel which is intimate, beautifully furnished and with fantastic beers on tap - German beer is the best in the world, as well as the usual other things. You can spend a fortune if want, or not if you want.
Its not crammed with service staff - which suits me, and generally only has one person on the small check in area/lobby.
Just outstanding : I have so many happy memories here.
If you are a person of style and taste, then - as Arnie says; " You can do it". Follow his advice. And mine. You will not regret it.

Stayed here for 4 nights for a conference. Room was nice size for Europe. Decor in the room is quite worn and outdated. Air conditioning is available but does not work well. Service at the desk and housekeeping was very good. If I stayed here again I would ask for an updated room.

I stayed here for two nights on a recent work trip, and wish that I could have stayed a few more days to enjoy the city and this hotel. This hotel represents the best of boutique hotel accommodation in Germany. As others have observed, the rooms are spacious, clean and comfortable, and the general decor of the hotel is charming and functional. The staff could not have been more helpful.

Is not often i write a hotel review, it has to be either exceptional or awful... Fortunately this is the former..

Great service, room, spa, food and even Internet connection, mark this out as a luxury gem!

The restaurant was truly an unexpected pleasure, and even the bar food was great.. So much so we extended our stay..

My wife a seasoned spa user was also most impressed by the spa treatments..
