Entry to this is included in the entrance charge to the castle. The exhibition is well laid-out, and displays have German and English texts. The displays of old pharmacies were truly amazing and the whole exhibition is worth a visit, whether or not you have a medical or pharmaceutical background.

We spent quite some time looking for the different ways medicine has been prepared and sold over the centuries.

I have been to Heidelberg a half dozen times, and had never bothered to go inside this museum at the castle. I was pleasantly surprised. While old pharmacy-type memorabilia might mostly appeal to pharmacists or people in the medical profession, there were other related items inside the museum that were interesting, and the place was much larger that it appeared outside. While most tourists likely have a list oof places to see and things to do that make it easy to eliminate an apothecary museum, you might find yourself surprised by even a brief visit here.

This is a free exhibit in Heidelberg Shloss. Interesting, but lengthy. It was a little more in depth than I was infested in, but it was interesting to view the apothecary shops and how they progressed.

We encountered this museum as part of a castle tour and it was one of the highlights of our trip. The displays are intricate and well-labeled. There’s a lot of history showcased and explained in each of the rooms. Even the gift shop had delightful little trinkets that related to the museum’s theme. Definitely a worthwhile stop while at the castle.
