Heidelberg castle and city
The castle way up above the beautiful city is absolutely enormous it was a lovely day very warm we decided to walk from the city up to see if the castle was as big as it looked it was. The whole experience was fantastic coming down there are 280+ steps at the castle you look down on the river and the city the people were very friendly and helpful we were on a motorcycle and at every place we stopped we were told where to park always free and most times we just left helmets on the bike no bother at all well worth a visit. This was our first visit to Germany and we hope one day to go back.fantastic

Interesting castle ruin. Has apothecary museum and huge wine barrel to see. Offers audio tour, but we did not purchase it. Could have used a pamphlet or some reading explanation of history. Used tram to get up and down to castle. Enjoyed our time there.

this isn't your fairy tale castle - its a collection of styles from over the years, The audio tour really helps explain it all.

the giant wine casks are a must see as are the gods and muses and kaisers decorating the buildings

the little resturant is okay for food but only if you are hungry

The castle is high up in Heidelberg, so you get a great view of the city once you're at the top. A really stunning view, allowing you to really appreciate how beautiful a city it is. I paid the €6 to go up in the funicular railway, because my feet were already too sore from walking about to climb up the steep hill. This allowed me to get access to the courtyard as well though, meaning I could go and see the medical museum and the wine cellar. However, if you want, you can just walk up to the castle and then wander around the grounds for free.

Well worth spending an hour or two wandering around, and the medical museum is quite fascinating.

I don't know what makes this castle special. I did not find it that attractive. But the view of the city from there is great. And the park is also nice.
