I had the pleasure of eating at 'Schwarz' with a client. It is a modern, stylish restaurant on top of the Heidelberg building. All glass windows with nice views over the city and the castle (somewhat in the distance). The service is very friendly and professional. The wine recommendations are spot on. The food is, as you would imagine, very creative with high quality products. Especially the deconstructed Maultasche (Swabian ravioli) is a joy to eat. This all comes at a price but you would expect it here anyway. Back for more.

We had dinner on Valentine’s Day at Schwarz Das Restaurant. The restaurant is located on the top floor of Print Media Academy very close to the Main Train Station of Heidelberg. The restaurant has a commanding and beautiful view of the city. Since it was Valentine’s Day, we made reservations in advance. Upon arrival we were promptly greeted by a hostess who checked our name off the reservation list and escorted us to an elevator that brought us up to the restaurant. Walking into the restaurant, we were greeted by another hostess who took our coats and showed us to our table. Absolutely every table in the restaurant was occupied on this night so we felt fortunate about the reservation. The Menu for Valentines consisted of two fixed price menu’s. The five course menu was 65 euros and came with Veal, the 7 course menu was 95 Euros and came with a beef filet. We selected one of each for variety so we could split. The food was excellent and came out cooked to perfection. Between some of the courses were amuse bouches from the kitchen that gave the meal a special feel. The one main adjustment that must be made is is regarding the wine. The wine list had a huge number of German wines but had a relatively small number of Italian/ French wines compared with other high-class restaurants in Europe. The sommelier also seemed very over worked which made wine service slower. Perhaps, all of the wine refills should be handled by the other waitstaff which would allow the sommelier the latitude to focus on wine selection, wine tasting, and first pour. For the size of restaurant one person cannot be the only person who handles every wine related task. It is also concerning that the wine service theme seems to be consistently brought up in reviews. The restaurant should read these reviews and improve on this topic. We will definitely return to try another meal, perhaps a la carte. Overall excellent food/ dining experience.

What an incredible location... The food was incredible, with every course outdoing the previous one - some truly sublime moments. The waiting staff were amusing and helpful - we had a fantastic evening, thank you all very much.

This restaurant is located on the top floor of an office building, with a beautiful view over Heidelberg. It is located near the bahnhof (railway station) and thus not in the old city. It is a place for formal dining with a haute cuisine menu and a very extensive wine list (with a sommelier to advice). It is probably catering mostly to business people at lunch time. We went there for dinner on a wednesday evening and it was relatively quiet, with some couples and families. The staff was formally dressed. The guests were generally informally dressed, some jackets, but no ties. No jeans though. The food is high class & top quality, with exquisite tastes. No German heavy food. We took the 7 course "degustation menu". This was actually somewhat too much in terms of quantity for some of us. But it was delicious, well prepared and well presented. We do not recognise any of the negative comments made in earlier reviews. The staff adapts quickly to the mood at the table. They start more formal, but with a little loose comment or joke they became very friendly and helpful. It is top class dining, so you need to be in the mood for this restaurant and appreciate this type of cuisine. If you want schnitzel with fries and beer, this is the wrong address. Two courses only, probably leaves you somewhat hungry. As a consequence of the quality, it is not cheap to dine here, especially if you go for more courses and better wines. However, we felt it was very well worth it.

Whilst the location is top and the food generally of high quality (and price), the portions are small and too complex in the fusion of flavours, leaving you confused and hungry .... The Winelist is good, but the Service borders on arrogant.
