“Top restaurant - formal dining”
Reviewed July 19, 2012

This restaurant is located on the top floor of an office building, with a beautiful view over Heidelberg. It is located near the bahnhof (railway station) and thus not in the old city. It is a place for formal dining with a haute cuisine menu and a very extensive wine list (with a sommelier to advice). It is probably catering mostly to business people at lunch time. We went there for dinner on a wednesday evening and it was relatively quiet, with some couples and families. The staff was formally dressed. The guests were generally informally dressed, some jackets, but no ties. No jeans though. The food is high class & top quality, with exquisite tastes. No German heavy food. We took the 7 course "degustation menu". This was actually somewhat too much in terms of quantity for some of us. But it was delicious, well prepared and well presented. We do not recognise any of the negative comments made in earlier reviews. The staff adapts quickly to the mood at the table. They start more formal, but with a little loose comment or joke they became very friendly and helpful. It is top class dining, so you need to be in the mood for this restaurant and appreciate this type of cuisine. If you want schnitzel with fries and beer, this is the wrong address. Two courses only, probably leaves you somewhat hungry. As a consequence of the quality, it is not cheap to dine here, especially if you go for more courses and better wines. However, we felt it was very well worth it.

“Pretentious”
Reviewed July 2, 2012

Whilst the location is top and the food generally of high quality (and price), the portions are small and too complex in the fusion of flavours, leaving you confused and hungry .... The Winelist is good, but the Service borders on arrogant.

“Heidelberg's Top End”
Reviewed June 3, 2012

If you really want to splurge for a night on the town or go somewhere for a special occasion, then this is the place. The train station is right across the street, so the restaurant is easy to get to. Located on the top floor of the Print Media Academy, this penthouse restaurant offers a commanding view of the town. This is Heidelberg's only Michelin rated eatery, so you can expect to pay top dollar. It's worth it though. You can choose from a selection of pre-selected menus that rotate seaonally, or you can craft your own special meal and the chef won't disappoint you. Expect a visit from Mannfred Schwarz, the chef, himself - he came by the tables to make sure everyone was enjoying themselves and the food was to their satisfaction. Of course we only had great things to say. I hope you will too!

“Only a nice view...”
Reviewed March 4, 2012

I think this restaurant previously received a one Michelin star. But I think the place no longer live up to its name at least from the food perspective.

The atmosphere is pretty good, it has a nice overlook of Heidelberg. Clean and professional service is followed. All staff is capable of fluent English and is very accommodating.

But the food doesn't live up... French with some German/Austrian touch.. Not much tasty nor creative especially considering the price..

For tourist, it might be still okay... depending on your preferences.

One tip: if you have a car, you need to street park near the building which could be bit touch..
