The Herrenmuhle used to be an outstanding restaurant that easily would have earned 5/5 in all categories. This was true up until around 2002/03, when they apparently were forced to cater to a larger audience by lowering their price point. Spacing between tables became less, the private dining room upstairs was closed, the fair became heartier, the staff did not have as much time for each guest, the service became less personal.
Having said all that, the Herrenmuhle still is my restaurant of choice in Heidelberg for higher end meals, whether personal or business. The food is good, the wine list has interesting local wines as well as good alternatives, the owners are great people.
