Restaurants in tourist traps like Heidelberg so often disappoint to it is a relief always to find one which takes its task seriously. Backmulde does that - it is a traditional German restaurant in an attractive old building. I like this kind of cuisine, which has strong roots in tradition but which also recognizes that things have moved on a bit, so is not as massive or as heavy as the food of yesteryear. We didn`t have a booking but were made most welcome. Wine list could be larger but is reasonably well chosen. You could sense that the local diners are happy to eat here, and in a tourist resort, that is always a good sign.
