“One of my best food experiences ever”
Reviewed June 24, 2013

Had a 6 course menu and every course was just perfect. Unfortunately I was only able to drink one glass of wine (which suited perfectly with the main course) because I still had to drive.

Both the chef and the Maitre (Kruithof brothers) are dutch and just perfect both in service and food quality! Arnejan (Chef) knows how to convince you to try something new, and Diederik is just your perfect host!

“Was nice and pleasant.”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

It has two Michelline Stars. Oh, the chef is an Artist.Every dish was peice of art, we took a lot of pictures. But taste.. just ok, close to 3 than to 5. Great value for money, nice atmosphere, thoughtful staff, great service. Sorry, we expected it a little bit tastier.

“Elegant, innovative and fresh dining”
Reviewed April 28, 2013

As a guest of the hotel, I wanted to try the restaurant, especially on the first evening while getting settled. Best decision of the entire holiday! The trio who runs the restaurant and hotel are obviously passionate about fresh, interesting, elegant fare that is a great value. A must have is the crayfish, orange, and tomato soup which had a velvety texture and refreshing feel. I was lucky enough to be present in the first week of the "white gold" asparagus season and enjoyed a plateful with ham, potatoes and a sauce that could potentially stand all on its own. Lastly, the cheese selection did not disappoint, with Dutch, German, French and English cheese and homemade raisins to delight the palate. I especially recommend the Limburger cheese. After such a satisfying meal, the menus at other restaurants in town paled in comparison - mainly meat and potatoes German fare or another boring Italian place. I decided to eat again in the Kreuzeblume, and soaked up some of the atmosphere as well as the food. Like the hotel, the restaurant has a simple beauty with a relaxed feel but attentive and professional service. The entire back wall of the restaurant is decorated with original art from German duo Kochiesen + Hullmann, which was a visual feast alongside the meal. The wines in the accompanying flight per course were delicious and many hailed from the surrounding region. On my second night I was treated to steak tartar with piccalilli, and a monk fish in a white chocolate and balsamic vinegar sauce. I have never had these combinations and the result was delightful and tasty. The caramel parfait desert perfectly rounded off the meal. If I had anything negative to say, it's that my visit ended the next day and I could not try any more items off the menu. The menu dishes could be selected ala carte or as part of 3,4, and 5 course meals, all for reasonable prices. Compared to larger cities such as London or Amsterdam, the dishes were generously portioned and reasonably priced for such quality. I will definitely be coming back and recommending this to anyone who enjoys food and wine.

“World class”
Reviewed April 6, 2013

I have had the pleasure over the years of eating at some of the worlds best restaurants in Sydney, LA, Copenhagen, Singapore, London and Melbourne. The meal here was up there with the best.
The crayfish soup was sublime. Full flavoured with a lovely silky texture. The veal medallions were extremely tender and the vegetables beautifully handled. It would be considered pricey by German standards, amazingly good value by Sydney standards. With such great food that is served with very good service, price is of no consideration at all.

“Great Value, Tasty Fine Dining - One of the best in Freiburg”
Reviewed March 3, 2013 via mobile

This charming little restaurant is situated in one of the nicest little cobblestone streets in Freiburg.

We decided to come here for dinner due to the TA reviews and were not disappointed!

Pros:
- although the menu is small, it and wine pairings are very reasonably priced
- service is efficient and very good without being in your face
- location and the ambiance of the restaurant are lovely and charming
- food is of excellent quality, very well presented and very tasty, everything's presented with great attention to detail
- the seafood dishes were highlights, we wish that we could've had bigger portions!

Cons:
- the only reason why I'm giving a 4 star for the food is because we felt that the food lacked a little bit of creativity, the food was tasty but they didn't scream 'amazing'

Overall, I would highly recommend this restaurant. Excellent for going on a date!
