“Good location”
Reviewed April 16, 2012

My wife and I stayed one night in mid-April. The room included a king-size bed, lots of window and a very clean and tidy bathroom. We were very happy with the room and despite our minimal Deutsch skills, we checked in fairly easily. There is parking provided by the hotel in the basement. It will cost, but finding a parking spot in this area is almost impossible. We recommend going downstairs for breakfast in the morning. It is an extra cost, but worth it as their buffet breakfast is pretty varied. Lots of breads, fruit, eggs, cold stuff, cereals, juice and coffee. There is free wifi so that is a good perk as well. The location is very close to the Altstadt (old town) which is where you want to spend your time in Freiburg. Good value for the money.

Room Tip: I don't think it really matters. As a matter of rule, never get a room near an elevator and neve...

We just spent a pleasant three nights here during a long autumn weekend in Freiburg and have no complaints. Stayed in a newer (more expensive) room and thought it was perfect.

Room was clean and modern and the bathroom was excellent. Overall the room was not enormous, but I've yet to see a European hotel room that is. A nicely designed set of shelving near the bed stored our suitcases and whatnot, which helps keep the room from feeling too cluttered. The shower (including water pressure and temperature) was one of the best I've seen in Europe. Bring your own shampoo and/or soap if you're not a fan of the included "all-in-one" option.

The bed was a standard German double, meaning it's two twin mattresses set on one frame. I'm never a fan of this setup, but it's normal here. Only complaint about the room was that one of the mattresses was definitely more comfortable than the other, but it wasn't terrible.

Wifi is included, just have to get the code from the front desk. The receipt says it's only good for one day but our code lasted all three. Couldn't really get our phones to connect though, but had no problems with the laptop.

We didn't have any issues with street noise, as the hotel is in a quiet neighborhood but only a two minute walk to the city center. It's also only a couple minutes from the Stadtgarten (hence the name), and there's a wine shop and bakery just up the street.

Despite the great description, we never tried the breakfast but probably would again if we returned. We parked in the garage for two nights and across the street on the last night. Cost is 13 Euro a day for the garage and 9 Euro to park at their other hotel across the street so be sure to factor that in.

Overall, it's a great hotel and it was definitely a nice switch to try something modern versus the more traditional German style. Would most certainly stay here again.

Most of my comments concur with reviewer ANDRENAPAUL who also reviewed this in August.

Hotel is in a good quiet location, and it was clean and easy to find and park a car via Satnav.

However, indeed, it was hot and stuffy with no a/c. Look, I know it's August in Germany where you shouldn't expect a/c, but even opening the windows provided no air circulation. Also, no added conveniences such as coffee-making facilities, iron, fridge, ice-machine, etc. Bed was uncomfortable, but so stuffy in the room it was impossible to sleep anyway.

I'm not sure what the "design" in designhotel was supposed to signify.

I do have to disagree with ANDRENAPAUL on service......the staff with whom I interacted were extremely friendly and helpful.

When I did walk around Freiburg, I'm not sure I saw much better options for location and cleanliness.

More than friendly staff, amazing rooms, good location in a city where u can walk all of the major distances without using any public transportation at all. For us, it was the Nr. 1 Hotel in Freiburg because they feature a cheap and still amazing restaurant/ bar with a nice terrace.

Only bad point: The hotel is divided into the main house and 2 "Gästehäuser"/ guest houses, which are probably not as modern as the main house is.

To start with the positive, this hotel is in a great location. And it's clean. And that's it.

Unfortunately...
The staff were very unfriendly, unhelpful and quite rude. The rooms were tiny, hot and stuffy with no air-conditioning, indeed no extras either..no tea/coffee making facilities, ironing board, ect..the things you take for granted at this price.
All in all, dreadful. We will not be back.

I was a few times in this hotel and can really recommend it. It is one of the best hotels in Freiburg; the rooms are new, they offer a big breakfast buffet, staff is very friendly and the hotel is in walking distance from the city center. The hotel has as well a very nice terrace to have dinner or a drink in the evening.

For years and years we stayed in a nice 3 star hotel and this time I decided I want to up grade myself to a pampering 4 star new hotel. I booked 4 nights, I knew the price would be 119 euros per room without breakfast, plus 12 euros for the garage (you can park on the street on your own risk, very small or scarce parking possibilities and you have to run and pay every few hours).

The room was new, modern, very much like the picture. The picture, though, was taken in a much larger room. Our room was tiny. Not enough space to hang clothing for two people, no place for our 2 suitcases. We felt cramped in. When we asked to change the room to a bigger one they wanted an addition of 20 euros per night which would be 139+12 euros for parking = 152 euros or $227 - definitely much too much for this kind of hotel.
No tea and coffee making facilities, and nothing on offer from reception, except a water which you have to pay for. No small refrigirator. A good quality flat screen TV in the room, with mainly German programmes and CNN.

No bath in the room, and no place for our toiletries near the shower. They economize on toiletries by supplying a bottle of all-purpose bodywash/shampoo which is fixed to a wall. You have to squeeze a dose on to your hand to wash or shower.

The Hotel is an easy ten minutes walk from the pedestrian zone.

The stuff at the hotel was correct but not very pleasant.
