“Excellent location, great for a short stop over or short visit to Freiburg”
Reviewed August 28, 2012

We stayed one night in the Mercure on our way home from Italy. The hotel is near the citycentre (altstadt) and easy to reach from the highway. The room we booked was large enough to accomdated us. The room and bathroom look a bit outdated but everything was clean and working fine. The parking is below the hotel in a public garage but the hotel offers a rebate on the parkingfee. The breakfast is like you expect to get in Germany, try to book a room including breakfast because otherwise it is expensive. We did not have diner at the hotel there are lots of nice restaurants in the altstadt which are within walking distance of the hotel. We very much enjoyed this hotel and would recommend it to anyone thinking about a short visit to Freiburg.

The family room we received was clean and spacious enough for the 4 of us.
The location is great - a very short walk to the old city and to the park.
Car access is a bit tricky, so drive slowly as you approach the hotel.
We found the breakfast too expensive and did not use the hotel restaurant. The Internet was not cheap either, to say nothing of parking (17 Euro per day max).
But for a short stay in this lovely city it was just fine.

Room Tip: Ask for a view to the old city.

When reserving our room at the mercure, we made sure that we would be able to fit our baby's travel crib/cot in the room. Upon arrival, the woman at the front desk glanced at my 2 year old and very snarkily told me that our daughter's bed would not fit and that we should have reserved a larger room. She told me that our daughter would have to sleep in the bed with us. She offered no suggestions or solutions, just said we were out of luck. We wearily made our way up to our room and saw that we could have fit three of our daughter's beds in there! The room smelled very strongly of cleaning products and it was hard to breathe in there for a while. Furthermore, the air conditioning was not very effective, which was a disappointment on a 90 degree day. The duvets on the beds were far too warm for a summer night and there were no other sheets or blankets to be used. The room itself was nice and clean, as was the bathroom. The hotel was well located near the pedestrian district.

We just returned home (2 adults and 2 Children) after a wonderful tour, by car, of southern Germany. This hotel was the last one that we stayed (for four nights) and i strongly would like to recommend it to anyone visiting Freiburg. Excellent service (Front Office and Restaurant), great breakfast, centrally located, great housekeeping and spacious family rooms are what makes me think so positively about the hotel. The hotel is virtually at the doorstep of the old town (just cross the road and you are there) with various shops and restaurants around it as well as the numerous attractions that this lovely city has to offer.

As far as the price of the parking is concerned. As soon as i checked in i contacted the reception about it and they advised me on some special deals that exist there and so i ended up paying 38 Euros for 4 days, which is a great deal .

So to sum it all up. This hotel is great and i shall definately stay there again!

Room Tip: If you are a family of four go for the family rooms. They are really spacious and have a Queen bed a...

The location of the hotel is great since it is right in the heart of downtown. So you do not need a car to see the city center and having a car is very prohibitive due to 17€ parking fee for 1 day.
Entrance and exit to the park also is not that easy since the parking floor reserved for the hotel is always full of cars coming to Karstadt for working or shopping.
There is no coffe maker or safe in the room. The hotel left an opportunistic impression on me.

Room Tip: Do not go to this hotel if you are travelling with your car.

I am a bit surprised by some of the comments about this hotel. I feel like I was short changed. To start with the room was tiny. Then there was no tea-coffee maker and no safe. Somethings now expected in all hotels. The receptionist was rather grim faced. If she is in the service industry she needs to at least attempt smiling. The lobby area is small and one wouldn't like to hang around there unless required. There is parking below the hotel which is fairly expensive (Euro 17 per day).

The location was good but then Freiburg is a small city anyway. The hotel came across as a business hotel which is surprising given that Freiburg is mostly tourism driven. If I ever go to Freiburg I would select a hotel with more charm and warmth. For which I am willing to pay slightly more. Not that Mercure was very cheap.

This is a lovely hotel. We (2A, 2C) spent 2 nights in a big, very clean, light and bright family room (either room 322 or 522 - can't quite decipher my notes) with 1 comfortable queen and 2 single beds and a view of the Muenster if we leaned out the opening windows. TV had BBC, Sky, CNBC but Nick was in German only. They have catered well for kids though with a Play station, Lego and books on level 1 in a little seating area by the bar. Minibar prices were reasonable with beers for Eu 3. Excellent breakfast with lots of fruit.

Location is fantastic - you cross the road and you're in the paedestrian area of the old town. There is a Migros (a Swiss chain so loads of chocolates) supermarket close by for picnic supplies. It's a good 20 mins walk with luggage from the station - there are also trams into the centre of the old town which leave from above the far ends of the platforms away from the main station area.
