My husband attended a conference at the University, and I merely walked around the grounds and visited the "Universeum", as they call their small museum which describes the history of the University itself.
Entry to the Universeum is free, and, while the displays are all in German, they were able to lend me an English guidebook (€30 to buy) for use while I toured the exhibits. I spent a pleasant 45 minutes or so here, and I imagine a fluent German-speaker might find even more of interest.
