“Excellent stay at Hotel Bareiss”
Reviewed July 26, 2008

One of the best hotels and restaurant in Germany.
Family owned. About 100 rooms but very personal service. The moment you arrive at the frontdesk and tell them your name they will remember it for the rest of your stay !!!!!
We have been their for 9 nights and had very nice food in half board. In the hotel you will find also a Stube (food from the region), Kaminstube (à la carte ) and Bareiss Gourmet ( 3star michelin) with excellent food and wines. Bikes at your disposal.
Wonderful spa, very nice garden !

My husband and I stayed at the Bareiss for four nights during the week before Christmas in 2005. It was the final hotel on a two week tour of southern Germany, and was going to be our big splurge for the trip. We were looking forward to a fun and relaxing stay with fabulous dining (3 Michelin star rated restaurants in the area), spa treatments, swimming, and a good location from which to explore the Black Forest.

We checked into our room, which turned out to be the smallest room of all four of the hotels we stayed at on this trip (and by far the most expensive), but it was clean and comfortable and well lit. We ate dinner at Restaurant Bareiss that evening. It was pretty good, but a little stuffy for our taste. That night, we went back to our room and discovered that it was located directly above the hotel bar, where the hotel's lounge singer was performing. At about midnight, we called the front desk to ask when the music would stop and were told that the bar would stay open until the last guest left, but that they would request that the volume of the music be reduced so we could sleep, and that they would see if there was another room available for us in the morning.

The next morning, we were asked if we wanted to change rooms, but we declined as we were able to get to sleep after the music was turned down. BIG MISTAKE!!! It turned out that the next night was the hotel staff Christmas party, which took place in the bar, of course. They failed to mention this little tidbit to us. The party raged on from 8 pm until at least 3:30 am. This time when we called the front desk to complain, we were told "Too Bad" there was nothing they could do. In our opinion, that was an unacceptable response to a guest staying at a five star hotel.

The next morning, we asked to speak to the manager. Here's where the five star service made itself apparent. The manager came over to our breakfast table, and before we even got a word out, apologized, offered to comp the previous night, and upgraded us to a penthouse suite for the remaining two nights of our stay. The rest of the stay was good, but our opinion of the place was tainted by the first two nights.

Bad personal experience aside, I think this could be a great hotel to stay at. While our experience would qualify as "terrible," I still gave an overall rating of "above average". Most of the other guests we met were regular visitors and were all happy and pleasant. Our spa treatments were good, the swimming pools were lots of fun, and the included breakfast and dinner was great. The staff was friendly and courteous. They have a fun little shopping corridor, and there were daily activities and outings scheduled for guests to enjoy. I think it's a little expensive for the size of the rooms, but the amenities make up for that.

My husband myself and two friends stayed for four nights in May. We have been four times before.
It never ceases to amaze me how each time we visit is such a fantastic experience. All the staff are very helpful, the restaurant is magnificent, the food is out of this world. It is friendly, proffessional, and a great pleasure from the time you arrive until the sad time to leave. It is just FANTASTIC

We stayed one week with our 3 months old baby. Our stay was wonderful.
The staff was very friendly and efficient, also with guests having babys (this is not always the case, even in top hotels). The quality of the food was more than excellent. We had never seen such a tremendous breakfast buffet before (only with top quality products). The spa and fitness are very well equiped. The only reason we are not giving the maximum rating is that the rooms as well as the spa could deserve a small renovation. Nevertheless, we will certainly come back in this family-run hotel nested in a small valey in the black forest
