“Superb Location, Great Value, Proprietor Went the Extra Mile”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed June 9, 2009

I stayed at the Deutscher Kaiser at the end of May on a motorcycle trip with 3 friends. The hotel is in a very convenient location near to the centre of Baden Baden. Two minutes walk and you are in amongst the shops and restaurants. Baden Baden is a beautiful town and well worth a visit. The rooms here are comfortable, very clean and were ideal for our needs. I agree with the previous good reviews and must also add that the buffet breakfast is the best I have ever experienced in this standard of accommodation in Germany! An added bonus in a town centre is that there is secure garage parking for either cars or motor cycles at a reasonable cost.

Due to a mechanical failure on my motorcycle on the second day of our trip, I had to abandon it in Baden Baden for hopeful repatriation to the UK! Even though the owner George, lost revenue from us having to leave a night early as a result of this, he could not have been more helpful in resolving my problems. He even booked the onward hotel for us to enable me to fly home. I cannot praise him highly enough for this. His efforts included posting some of my luggage back home, as I had the misfortune to break down on a Bank Holiday weekend and was unable to organise this myself.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting great value for money and a clean, comfortable hotel with outstanding service. I intend to return next year on a new bike!

Stayed there 21march- 24march 2008, a small hotel with a nice location very close to city center. This hotel was very clean everwhere and the lady and her husband that managed it was so friendly. Good breakfast and nice rooms, would definitely recomend this to everyone, a good price with good location, we were 2adults+1child(2year). Baden-Baden is a small town but so many nice restaurants with superb food and wine. Go there and see yourself.

Over the year I have become a bit risk-wary in my choice of hotels, normally preferring to stay in the well-known chain hotels with good reviews. In Baden-Baden there was not much of a choice in the affordable range of places to stay, so I ended up more or less by chance in the Deutscher Kaiser.

Upon arrival we were shown two rooms: the first was smallish with a window facing the street (which is quiet throughout the day, but even more so in the eveing when it is closed off for traffic), while the second was quite a bit bigger, on the back side of the hotel, and with a balcony. Decoration was the same in both: not particularly tasteful, but decently furnitured, flat-screen tv, well-maintained, clean. The room with the balcony was definately worth the rate. Beds were a bit on the hard side, but still within the limits of being fine. Breakfast in the morning was perfectly adequate, and is included in the rate.

The best thing about this hotel is the location: right in the middle of the centre, within easy walking distance to everything. The hotel has its own car park on the back, charging 5 euros per day which is excellent value considering the effort it costs to find a public parking space on the streets. The worst thing is probably the hotel lobby: a small and cramped place. But the good news is that apart from check-in and check-out you don't have to spend any time there. Would recommend this hotel for travellers who want to stay one or two nights in the heart of Baden-Baden without paying a fortune, but nonetheless enjoy a hotel that is better than budget standard.

  • Liked — The little balcony, and the location in the heart of Baden-Baden.
  • Disliked — Cramped lobby area.

Centrally located and with Internet, this hotel is a great budget find in the otherwise expensive town of Baden-Baden. Breakfast is included in the rate (certainly a money saver) and is served directly by the owners of the hotel. I had a booked a triple room since it was cheaper than a double and single, but upon arrival, the owner gave us the double and single for the same rate! The furnishings are certainly a little 1970s, but everything is clean and we had a very nice flat panel TV in our room. Walking distance to everything important and owners helpful in directing you around town. Would stay here again!

I have just finished my stay in this hotel, and had a single room with paid-for breakfast. My point-of-view is as per my experiences in the the U.S.A., so please take my comments in that context.

The hotel seems to be part of a former villa with a courtyard in the center. There is a parking garage, but it is not immediately obvious when you follow the parking sign for the hotel.

The entryway from the front of the hotel is small but nice. The rear entryway (near the garage) has a high stepin into the lobby (with the reception desk just around the corner at the far end). You may not want to travel with bulky luggage. The elevator is right next to the reception desk and is suitable for 2 - 3 people of bulky size, and up to 6 of normal size. The garage fees are additional, and this appears to be the norm.

There is no room service, as far as I cauld tell.

The front desk is very courteous and helpful, both to the guests and to the people calling via telephone for the guests. When you checkin, be sure to ask if they have the rooms you prefer as opposed to the rooms you booked (esp. if you booked online).

The breakfast room has a very nice decor. The breakfast itself is continental, so you get bread, butter, honey, cold cuts, fruit juices, milk, & cereal. Ask if you want something different, they may be able to accommodate you. The room never got crowded/filled up.

Afterhours access is by room key only. Usually after 10:30 PM on weekdays, and (I believe) 5 PM on weekends.

The room is clean and sparsely but adequately furnished (phone, TV with remote, bed, sofa/chair, table, desk, mini bar). The cleaning service apparently goes ahead and cleans regardless if you have the Do Not Disturb sign up (!). But the cleaning service does an EXCELLENT job, and they even move your stuff carefully as needed to do their job. They only "disturb" what they need to do.

The room does get stuffy if you keep the window closed, but not overly so at least in the winter months since you can open the window just a bit and let the cool air in.

The bathroom has a stepin shower, a wide sink, and a toilet/commode. It is fully tiled, and is very pleasant to be in. The controls on the hot/cold are somewhat finicky, so it takes a little getting used to.

The hotel does have a wireless Internet hotspot (T-Mobile), but it works best in the lobby area. You can get connected from your room, but the signal is fairly week (-80 dB or lower). Be sure to play with your Internet Explorer/other browser's proxy settings if you don't get connected. There is also free Internet access, so you don't HAVE to pay for T-Mobile. Be patient! The good news is that the connection is usually stable once you have established it. If you decide to pay for T-Mobile, understand that you may not get any technical support on weekends. The phone appears to use VoIP, and has jacks for ISDN/USB/Ethernet. I didn't even try these options, if you are an intrepid explorer, please feel free to do so and report back here :-) VPN does work over the free wireless.

What a great find! The Deutscher Kaiser hotel is a small, charming and centrally-located hotel in Baden-Baden. Located on a small downtown street in a pedestrian shopping zone, the hotel is a block from the 4 Euro bus to the train station, two blocks from the casino and a five-minute walk from both of Baden-Baden's great spas, the Friederichsbad and the Caracalla. The rooms are clean and up-to-date, the beds comfortable, the attention is personal-- all at a terrific price! The rooms are quiet, and include color cable TV. The free breakfast buffet includes fruit, breads, cereals, cheeses and meats as well as smoked salmon and other fish. If you want to save your money for the casino or the spas without sacrificing comfort, try the Deutscher Kaiser.
