“A must do!”

But not for the faint of heart....the ride to the top is quite steep towards the top, and if you don't like heights you may lose your breath for a few seconds. The view of the city and valley are amazing and well worth the ride. You can ride up/down, but many hike down. A group of kids took their sleds down when we went . 4 euros for a round trip. There is nothing quite like this in the U.S.

“Awesome and must visit!”

Merkur BergBahn is an awesome funiculaire in Baden-Baden. The station is a little away from BadenBaden city center. You can come by car or by bus. There is free car parking right outside the station. It is a fully automated transport system. You pay the ticket price in euros at the kiosk at the station (It only costs 2 euros to go up and 4 euros for to-fro return journey). Insert the ticket from the kiosk into the machine at the turnstile and pass through it. Board the funiculaire and press the "Ausfahrt" button. The doors close after an alarm and you are taken on a wonderful journey. It seemed that the funiculaire dragged you up and up! The trip lasts less than 10 mins, for a distance of slightly a km. At some points the path seems to be almost vertical. It was wonderful view from up there. The view from top is amazing. You get a panoramic view of the city, the black forests. There is a restaurant, a lookout tower and transmitter too. We went in November and it was a colourful scene with autumn colours spread infront of us. It is definitely a must visit. It is very cold up there with gusts of wind blowing. So dont forget to take really warm clothes and gloves. You can either walk or take the funiculaire down. It had just stopped raining and was very cold, so we opted to take the funiculaire to go downhill.

“A pleasant ride with beautiful scenery!”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 3, 2012

The bergbahn is a good idea at any time of the year. The views across Baden-Baden and the surrounding area are wonderful. At the top is a stone tower, that allows you to see for quite a distance, to France and across the Black Forest. The entrance to the tower is confusing for the first time visitor. There is a metal door and it is locked, however one must press the button on the wall next to the door. This will then buzz to unlock the door. Watching the hang-gliders taking off from the hillside is particularly fascinating. There are play areas for children and nice wooden lounge chairs. This is a great thing to do, no matter whether you are a tourist or a local, alone or with someone.

“Amazing place to visit”

The bahn or the train is amazing. The first time we went there, there was no one. The whole thing is automated. You take the tickets, wait for the train, get inside, close the doors and there you go. Had a good fun on the train.
The view from the mountain is mind-blowing. Makes one feel like flying into the mountains. Must visit if you are near Baden-Baden.
