Merkur BergBahn is an awesome funiculaire in Baden-Baden. The station is a little away from BadenBaden city center. You can come by car or by bus. There is free car parking right outside the station. It is a fully automated transport system. You pay the ticket price in euros at the kiosk at the station (It only costs 2 euros to go up and 4 euros for to-fro return journey). Insert the ticket from the kiosk into the machine at the turnstile and pass through it. Board the funiculaire and press the "Ausfahrt" button. The doors close after an alarm and you are taken on a wonderful journey. It seemed that the funiculaire dragged you up and up! The trip lasts less than 10 mins, for a distance of slightly a km. At some points the path seems to be almost vertical. It was wonderful view from up there. The view from top is amazing. You get a panoramic view of the city, the black forests. There is a restaurant, a lookout tower and transmitter too. We went in November and it was a colourful scene with autumn colours spread infront of us. It is definitely a must visit. It is very cold up there with gusts of wind blowing. So dont forget to take really warm clothes and gloves. You can either walk or take the funiculaire down. It had just stopped raining and was very cold, so we opted to take the funiculaire to go downhill.
