“Pastry shop”

Forget the Black Forest Cake. This place has world class pastries, with their specialty being the fresh fruit varieties. There are many many choices here and all are excellent from the fresh blueberry tart to the chocolate Bundt cake. Everything is excellent in this great little bakery.

They also make their own fantastic chocolate bars. I am very picky but really like the chocolate bars with salt and macadamia nuts among others. They have an excellent selection of single piece chocolates, my favorite being the cream filled chocolate truffles, dusted with dark chocolate.

Their chocolate torte is really world class as well and may be the best single item here.

Get a little one person quiche to take home, (spinach or tomato) or buy by the slice from the larger quiche. Great for a microwave. I almost always shop at the pastry counter and save my eating experiences for elsewhere.

The outdoor patio can be nice and the old world parlor for quiche and salad is quaint and sweet but not a place for good coffee. Can be a long wait if they are busy as well. Better to go to Koffeehaus and have a good capuccino with a slice of one of their excellent coffee cakes (maybe sourced from Konig.) Come here to shop to take back to the room with you.

“It was the Black Forest Cake that Brought Me to Cafe Konig”
Reviewed September 16, 2013

It was one of those Rick Steve’s episodes on PBS about Baden Baden and the famous spas and the world’s best “Schwarzwalder Kirchtorte” (aka Black Forest Cake) blah, blah, blah…. So that is how we ended up here and it was a delightful experience. It lived up to its bill! Great people watching in a formal living room atmosphere while sipping coffee and nibbling away on Schwarzwalder Kirchtorte.

“Quaint and enjoyable”
Reviewed September 12, 2013

This is a great place to take a break in Baden-Baden. We came here specifically for the black forest cake and some coffee. Fortunately, we got the last two pieces of black forest cake for the day. The cake lived up to the hype. It was delicious, not too sweet and very flavorful. The coffee was great, too. The service was friendly, patient and efficient. We sat inside, in what looked like an adorable grandmother's living room (in the best way). There is also great patio seating for those who want to sit outside and enjoy some people watching.

“Not the best blackforest cake...but value for money!”
Reviewed August 22, 2013

I had read reviews on trip advisor that this cafe makes some of the best black forest cake in the region, hence I made my husband search for the place for quite some hours. We were in Baden-Baden on a day trip and since my brother was in the spa so we had to spend some time loitering about the city center. Finally after a long search we found Cafe Konig. My husband went inside to buy the pastries, but they were modified versions of the masterpiece (read black forest cake)
It was a fruit and nut cake layered with cherry filling and topped with freshly whipped cream with chocolate flakes for garnish. It was tasty but I was a bit disappointed because I was looking for the classic dish..
But it's a good place for cake lovers, with a huge variety of baked goods.
