I have travelled in and around this part of France for many years, but had not visited the gallo-romaine museum and site at St Romain-en-Gal until November this year, 2008. This can be explained by the fact that this wonderful site does not appear to be well publicized
The museum is one of the best of its kind that I have ever visited. The museum building itself is architecturally impressive and enables the amazing exhibits to be shown off to their best advantage.
The museum staff were welcoming and well informed and, as a bonus, English speaking.
English audio guides for the museum and archeological site are available free of charge. These guides, not only describe the exhibits but bring to life the society and trade of this important city of the Roman Empire in France.
An added bonus to the marvels of the museum and site is the restaurant, L'Entre Deux, we had lunch there between visting the museum and the site. this restaurant is comfortable with good service and good food at reasonable prices.
