“Charming chalet, stunning location”
Reviewed March 2, 2014

Our party of 16 have just returned from a fantastic week in this beautifully refurbished chalet hotel which we shared with another 10 or so guests. The style & decor is really charming, spotlessly clean, warm and friendly. Most of the rooms seem amazing, spacious with plenty of storage. I shared a three bed room with 2 other girls, but the third bed was on a mezzanine level with low ceiling height, it's really only suitable for a child, nevertheless we managed. All include with lovely freshly installed showers or bath rooms.

The chalet is set in Fornet village, a tiny hamlet set around a river tumbling down the valley 40 minutes walk or 5 minute courtesy bus ride up from Val D'Isere. The bus stop and nearest ski lift was just 5 mins walk away from the chalet. The nearby slopes are beautiful and there's plenty of great skiing around Val D'Isere plus plenty to keep non skiers amused. It's a picturesque location which we enjoyed coming back to after a day on the slopes, although it would be nice to have a local hostelry to drop into en route in the village.

The lounge area was pleasant to congregate in for aperitifs before dinner, nicely decorated with board games etc available, but it was a little cosy for the size of the chalet and we missed some comfy sofas to relax to afterwards. The spa area was very nice with sauna, steam room, jacuzzi & loungers to recharge in.

The chalet team Steve, Greg x2, Sam, Simon and the chefs were absolutely fantastic, great service and nothing was too much trouble. The food was top notch, with lovely hot & continental breakfast, afternoon tea & soup, canapés and a delicious three course dinner with menu and wine choices each evening. They easily accommodated special requests for healthy options as well as the beautifully cooked menu. Will our rep was also great and sorted out all our needs.

So if you're happy to share with others and enjoy a picturesque peaceful location this could be the perfect place for you.

Room Tip: All the rooms seem good, but the 3 beds are more family rooms than suitable for 3 adults.

We stayed here during February half term so it was a mix of adults with/without children. The staff were incredibly kind and helpful and couldn't do enough for you - mostly gap year boys with positive attitudes. The food was okay (and certainly plentiful) and the wine very drinkable. The chalet has recently been refurbished and it was great not to see honey coloured pine everywhere - it's more oak and pale grey floorboards. The beds were extremely comfortable and the rooms were immaculate when we got back from skiing. Only downside, as has been said before, was the seating in the lounge. Although the telly and wood burner were great.

It's a bit of a hike to the bus stop (in skis) but the bus is frequent and takes less than 5 minutes into town.

A good chalet with great staff and a nice atmosphere.

Room Tip: Room 3 is huge and Room 10 is a good size. Most rooms are twins and the beds do slide a bit on the...

The whole team at Chalet du Montet were very much hands on, contributing in making our stay one of our best Chalet Holiday experience's.The food and wine were 1st class, with a goog choice. The chalet has recently been fitted out using top class furniture and fittings in a contemporary style, kept impeccably clean by the chalet staff, beds very comfortable complete with luxury bed linen. What more could you ask for in one of the worlds best ski resort. Thank you all very much.

I stayed here last week with my family who were a group of 11 (adults, young children and kids/adults in their early 20s), and we shared the chalet with 2 couples and a large group of 30 somethings. Everyone had a fantastic time! With the variety of guests this just shows that Chalet du Montet can accommodation everyones needs.

Location: The chalet is situated in Le Fornet not the centre of Val d'Isere but DO NOT let this put you off. Le Fornet is a beautiful area and is easily connected to the town centre of Val d'Isere by free shuttle busses that run every 10 minutes during the day and every 20 minutes in the evening. Val d'Isere centre is so big that you will probably end up using the busses at some point anyway. The bus stop is a 5 minute walk (no more) away from the chalet and they run until 2.30am. If you have the energy to party in the town centre until after that, then you can always get a taxi back, which would take 5 minutes, or do what we did and walk back, which took 40 minutes (please note: this was a drunken idea and even though it was a beautiful walk I would not advise it as you are walking along a snow filled main road). You can start your ski day in Val d'Isere by getting the bus into town or in Le Fornet by getting on the Fornet gondola which is approximately 8 minutes walk away from the chalet. We spent some days just skiing in Le Fornet because it is quieter than Val d'Isere or Tignes and has a good range of reds and blues.

Communal areas: The chalet was immaculately clean. The dinning area was fantastic and fit everyone in perfectly. The seating area where the TV and games are is a little on the small side but we only really sat in there while we were waiting for dinner or having a few drinks after dinner. If you want to laze around on comfy sofas all day then stay at home.

Spa: This was exactly what we needed after a long day on the slopes. It's in the basement of Chalet du Montet but apparently it is shared with guests from other chalets; we didn't see anyone who wasn't from our chalet down there the whole week. They said the spa doesn't open till 3pm, but if you ask nicely they will open it for you earlier.

Food: I honestly cannot say one bad thing about the food. The breakfast was excellent - full english, porridge, continental breakfast and a breakfast special every day. The afternoon tea was delicious - soups, quiches and cakes. The dinner was fantastic - we chose our meal for the evening in the morning from 2 options (only 1 vegetarian option). Someone mentioned something about the portion sizes being small; the mains are not the biggest portions I have ever seen but on top of the canapes, a starter, vegetable sides with your main, a dessert AND a cheese board, good on you if you can fit any more in. The wine was also really nice. We had 2 options of red and 2 options of white for the whole week (the options did not change but we didn't want them to).

Staff: The kitchen staff, the manager, the resort rep and the chalet boys were all extremely nice and did there job well. They cleaned our rooms to a high standard (and even arranged our cosmetics in height order) and went that extra mile to make sure we had everything we needed.

Val d'Isere as a resort: The skiing is fantastic. There are lots of reds and off-piste areas to keep experienced skiers entertained, but there is also a great tranquil skiing area for beginners that contains about 6 long green runs. Eating on the mountain in extortionate (15 EURO for a spaghetti bolognese), so if you are saving the pennies I would either wait until afternoon tea or make yourself a sandwich. On the chalet day off we went to a nice restaurant in town called Le Caserole. The fondue was fantastic but I am glad we decided to go for a catered chalet because the bill was sky high. The snow parks in Val d'Isere and Tignes are a lot of fun; good range of jumps for different ability levels. The nightlife in Val d'Isere is excellent! Particular favourites of ours were Folie Douce in the mountains for apres, Morris bar for apres or before club drinks and Dicks Tea Bar for a dance.

I don't normally go to the same places twice, but I think I will have to re-think when I book my next ski holiday.

Room Tip: All the rooms we had were fantastic. Some slightly better than others in terms of size and storage s...

Great staff very good food. Fire and seating area very nice. Spa a must after a long days skiing. It's a 10 min bus ride from central Val but 5 min walk to a ski lift. Very quiet rooms for good nights sleep. Book your own restaurant for the Wednesday (chalet staff day off) as bookings can get confused and missed.

This is more a chalet than hotel. Position is a 10 min walk to the Telecabin at Le Fornet. It's not ski-able. Le Fornet is a good spot & there's a regular free bus into Val D'isere.

Bedroom was nice size. Bit more storage space would have been nice & a few more coat hangers. Big shower room (no bath).

Good boot room with boot warmer, ski/board rack & small individual cupboard (not lockable).

Communal jacuzzi, steam & sauna. Bring a robe if you're shy getting from your room to the basement spa area.

Food (chalet board) was very nice indeed (thank you Daniel & Jamie). Choice of dishes & they will accommodate likes & dislikes. Wine very drinkable! Please note you will share your table with different guests each night. We were lucky with our fellow guests - you might not be!

Staff are lovely. Super-polite & hard working. Very well done, lads.

Big downside is lack of a communal sitting room. The seating is a small area to one side of the dining area. There's no 'bar' as such. The seats are mainly furry footstools. Not much good if you want to kick back & read a good book!

As a result I'd say its an excellent place if you want a base for hitting the slopes all day but not if you want to spend time relaxing indoors.

Excellent chalet, good food and service. Excellent modern rooms with nice views but we did stay on the top floor. My only gripe would be that there are no comfy sofas in the communal areas. The spa area is well equipped with sauna , steam room and hot tub. Positioned in the le fornet area of val disere. Very picturesque and quiet but still easily accessible to the centre of val either by the gondola and adjoining lifts or by the excellent free bus service which only takes a few minutes and wasn't busy when we were there. Tignes is probably the better ski area but is well connected to val so make sure you buy the full Killy pass. If you're a boarder don't bother with the blue runs back to the first gondola in le fornet because they are all a bit flat, take the red to le laisinant off the bottom of dachta lift in the solaise area, it's much better plus you get to use the liessieres express which is an experience in itself. The bottom of santons back to val is also flat and a bit of a maul. Overall though, the pistes are great, well connected and groomed and great for mixed ability groups meaning your group can mostly stick together. Val disere is one of the best and we will definitely be coming back as soon as we can but make sure if you haven't booked a catered chalet then you will need plenty of cash because it's not cheap
