Having booked into one of the best hotels in Val D'Isere, I expected something a little more special than I found. The hotel is very disappointing upon arrival (no grand entrance or drive, no elegant reception desk) and there was, from time to time, a faint smell of drains in the lobby area. The rooms were a little tired (my bath plug didn't fit and took a day to be replaced) and they were badly sound-proofed as we could constantly hear the family next door and toilets flushing, etc. The rooms were poorly ventilated and the maid service very hit and miss with inconsisent turn-down and ashtrays being empted, but not replaced or cleaned. Breakfast service was fine, but the bar service was extremely slow verging on quite forgetful. A plus was the very willing and tenacious Concierge, who acheived the impossible for us with our changing travel arrangements. In summary, the hotel has great views and location, but needs smartening/tightening up to justify its high prices.
