If your looking for a Chalet don't be mislead by the photograph when booking on line.. As the other guests have said, the word Chalet is VERY MISLEADING! don't be fooled it is only a 4 bed apartment, and a poor one at that, i would class it as a 2 star.. Then only good thing was the food. 10/10.
Think very carefully about booking this one on line. We were gobsmacked when we entered the building, we thought it was a joke being played on us. Not so lucky.
P.S you have been warned....

Helene is not a chalet but more a 4 bedroomed apt within a block of many others. Any pics you see on line portraying the 'chalet' as a wooden structure to the front of a larger grey stone clad block are misleading.....this is not the 'chalet' at all as it is around the corner with a view over to the east side of the photo.
The apartment is acceptable if you do not wish to have much shared space downstairs. There really isn't much room to swing a cat but if you intend to be out most of the day and wish to enjoy excellent food at night, then this place is for you! The 2012-13 chalet host deserves a medal as he is able to dish up 4 course meals from the tiniest of kitchennettes for 8 persons whilst keeping calm and on top of things.
Be aware that when there is a suggestion that there is a lift or a satellite tv, they do not guarantee they are in working order. The lift was in order but there is no satellite tv at all. And the ski locker is only large enough for 4 skiers, not 8. 4 people will be lugging their equipment upstairs every day which will be most inconvenient! Or leave them downstairs at your own risk and covered my your own insurance!
The chalet beds were most comfortable and linen really nice and clean. Plenty of hot running water too.

This was the first Catered Chalet holiday I had been on, usually preferring self catering when skiing. The initially impression is that to call this a Chalet is misleading. It's actually an apartment within a large block comprising of at least 30 other apartments. However, whilst it lacks that charm you would associate with a standalone chalet, the accommodation itself is clean and meets expectations of a good 3 star residence.

The location of Helene is in Chatelard which is on the outskirts of Val D'Isere. The Chalet offers views of the mountains and is situated in a quiet area close to a mountain restaurant. It takes about 15 minutes to walk back from the town and whilst the free shuttle buses are excellent throughout the day (takes about 4 mins) the service does not extend into the evening. This could be a key factor in deciding whether to go out at night for some people. The chalet host provided excellent food and wine and so we didn't miss going out into the town in the evening and others in the Chalet weren't put off by the need to walk into town for the nightlife.

The Chalet is located close to the bus stop and most guests took the bus into town to catch the ski lifts as the easier option than trying to get there by the piste. Whilst the piste is close by, it is very flat and both boarders and skiers need to walk on it for about 6 or 7 mins before you get to any downhill areas. It's quite tiring!

We had a good holiday in Helene as the Chalet Host was excellent. It was a shame that the advertised Satellite TV was not in place (there is no TV reception at all) and that the one ski locker provided for the residence is not big enough for all the equipment for the guests. We had raised this with our rep but I suspect these are issues which are likely to remain outstanding for some time.
