Camp Bonifas is the United Nations Military Command base where you will be transferred from your JSA tour bus to a special military bus into the JSA area. Here you will be issued with your pass, sign a waiver, watch a video and on your return will be able to access the JSA Visitor Center gift shop. You are only allowed in a certain area and you cannot walk around or take photos around this military installation. The gift shop sells North Korean Rice Wine and some collector's currency amongst many other nice souvenirs.

This was the highlight of the DMZ tour and make sure you do not miss it if you are booked for DMZ tour. this is usually in the afternoon. book early as they need your passport details. whilst gawking at the NK side, they are watching you from the many cameras mounted overhead as well. Obey instucitons and dont do anything silly as the security is tight. The solderis were profesional and the american UN solder guide was fantastic.

Great insight to the North-South conflict and all the politics surrounding it.... plus, you get to stand on North Korean soil!

Check out my review of the DMZ/JSA for a more detailed review. But, don't plan on going to Camp Bonifas without buying a tour.
Small interesting museum, and nice gift shop if you want souvenirs.

We arrived at the camp and waited for some time on the bus before we were briefed on the visit and allowed to leave the bus and board a military bus for transport to the JSA.
We were not allowed to take photos ourselves. An official photographer took a group photo of those on our tour bus.
It was however interesting to see be there but feel we could have been shown more than we were.

I was able to visit Camp Bonifas as a part of a DMZ tour through the Panmunjom Travel Center at the Lotte Hotel. It was the highlight of the tour. We were taken to an area outside of Camp Bonifas where we were transferred to a UN bus (you are not allowed to bring anything with you except cameras). The UN bus, with a US soldier as our guide, drove us into Camp Bonifas where we were able to walk out to the DMZ, and take photos of the North Korean side. We were also able to enter the conference room on the DMZ, which was very cool.
