“Excellent Stay”
Reviewed March 31, 2012

We booked a 3 night stay here (March 2012) in a Superior room with a balcony, The hotel staff were welcoming and very friendly. Room 46 was on the second floor and was at the front of the property overlooking the pool and car car park.

The room was spacious and had plenty of wardrobe space with a safe. The mini bar prices were pretty cheap compared to other hotels. The bathroom had a nice big bath which was great for a soak after hitting the slops. We used the heated towel rail which to dry our ski gloves and tops overnight.

The bed was very comfortable and I slept so well here, my only issue was the duvet was way too warm for me. The best feature of the room was the balcony which gets the afternoon sun, a fantastic spot to get a few rays with a cold beer before heading into town.

The hotel breakfast's were a continental style buffet (all cold food except boiled eggs). This was fine for us as plenty to choose from and quality was good. Breakfast doesn't start until 8am which we found late as the ski bus goes at 8.40am which was a 10 min walk so we had to rush. We did head down the next day at 7.45am and people were already eating so my advice is just to head down when you are ready.

The location is fantastic and a 2 min walk into town and 7 mins to the town ski lift if you choose to ski at that side of the mountain (great for kids and ski school), or 10 mins walk to the ski bus stop to get to other side of the mountain.

Overall we had a great stay here and would definitely return. Good value for money compared to other hotels in Megeve and very nice staff.

Room Tip: Book a Superior room with balcony to get more space

We stayed at the hotel for 5 nights, in a superior room, and were very pleased with everything. The rooms are refurnished and very clean. The staff is friendly and they serve great breakfast! We were snowboarding everyday and the hotel is only 2 minutes away from the telepherique.
Would definitely recommend it!

Room Tip: Superior room is worth the extra mile..

I spent weeks reading reviews, looking at websites and maps before finally settling on this hotel! And I am SO glad that I did. It was the perfect location, the perfect staff, perfectly helpful... we stayed for a week for skiing and it was 170 EUROs for a standard room which is expensive – but not by Megeve standards! I must say it was pretty much worth it to come home after a long day and have a nicely made up room which was always toasty warm. We ventured down for breakfast on our first morning and at 13 EUROs per person, I must say I don’t think it was worth the price for some pastries, ham, cheese and hot drinks. So we skipped breakfast for the remainder of the week (you only pay for what you have) and popped to the supermarket right next door and saved ourselves a fortune. The breakfast room was nice and doubled as a lounge in the evenings. I didn’t get to try the beauty room unfortunately!!
The only downside was that we were in an adjoining room (the door was obviously locked) with a family of very loud children. They must have had friends down the corridor as we could hear them running up and down outside every evening and making a racket. We did have a room between our bedroom and the corridor so we just shut that – we could also hear the people in the room on the other side talking but this never went on past bedtime so it didn’t put us out too much. Perhaps it’s possible to ask for a room which isn’t adjoined to another.
A special mention for the three lovely ladies on reception who we would drop our key off with and collect it again each morning and evening. They were really helpful and welcoming and it was always nice to see a friendly face.
If you are going skiing in Megeve the hotel have a hut outside the main entrance with a locker for each room (the key is on your keyring with the room key) for you to store your skis and boots – brilliant idea! We didn’t use it as we hired our equipment from Pelloux Sports (recommended by the hotel) so we’d walk for 2 minutes to get our equipment which is on the way to the lifts and then we’d walk another 20 meters to get to the telecabin to the mountain. The perfect hotel location and the perfect ski hire location... it couldn’t have worked out better if I had tried! Pelloux Sports have an area where they store your equipment overnight and your shoes during the day.
We nearly stayed at the Royal Rochebrune hotel which is near a different ski lift but I am glad we didn’t in the end – the lift is up a hill then up a lot of stairs (there is a small lift which I imagine gets full). And it’s one cable car that goes up and down in about 5 minutes so there’d be a bit of waiting time. Near the chamois you have the choice of going everywhere. So I highly recommend the Hotel Vieux Moulin.

Room Tip: Ask for non-adjoining room as the door between rooms let in a lot of noise (during the day - at nigh...

Nice staff, clean, good breakfast, rooms ok. Perhaps we felt it was à little bit overrated by the Hotel ibe's, we expected some more charm.

We staid there for a night only. Very clean hotel, good service. We did not ski but it looks to me a bit fare away fromt he slopes and not very practical if you want to ski.
