After several years of enjoying wonderful lunches and views at L'Ideal, I can honestly say that today's visit will be our last.
We waited at least 10 minutes to be greeted and seated at our table by the rather unfriendly directrice, and when we asked for hats for our children (very hot day) were told there weren't any left, only for us to see a couple arrive straight after us and be given hats.
The service was ridiculously slow, the waiter was stressed, sweating profusely and clearly didn't know what he was doing; our dirty plates were left in front of us for half an hour after we finished eating, we were brought another table's dishes by mistake, someone else's bill was literally thrown onto our table, and when we finally received our bill, drinks had been added that we hadn't even ordered!
Just about every table around us were complaining about the same things, the waiters didn't seem to care and made no apologies. When at the end of the meal we spoke to the 'directrice' we were told very rudely that 'we must be mistaken, that there was nothing wrong with the service'. No apology was offered.
A hugely disappointing experience - since it was my birthday and we had chosen this restaurant because it used to be so special. In past years we had experienced fabulous service, food, ambiance and had recommended the restaurant to many friends. We will never return and will advise our friends to do the same.
The only thing this restaurant has going for it now is the view, but frankly a lot of other restaurants in the area also have the same view, and great friendly service without the pretentiousness. The venue no longer justifies the high price - and watch out, the bill was incorrect.
