“Really good food, accommodating host”
Reviewed November 12, 2011

We went here to celebrate our engagement with a party of 13. The maitre'd was very friendly and accommodating for our group. The presentation of the food is excellent, not the rustic simplicity you find in a bouchon, more of a gourmet style. Everything tasted great, but nothing was over-the-moon good. They were very friendly in negotiating the chaos of a large party, and even brought us a free pot of white wine, just cuz. For dessert, instead of taking everyone's order, they made everyone a plate with small versions of the desserts they serve, which I really liked. They even brought these plates to members of our party that didn't order a meal or menu.

After dinner, some went upstairs to listen to gypsy guitar and some stayed below to talk. Really a great place.

I should also mention that one person in our party was allergic to gluten, and they were gerat at accommodating her and made special dishs just for her, she was very pleased.

“Fantastic food!”
Reviewed September 14, 2011

My friend and I were visiting Lyon, and decided to choose a restaurant from Trip Advisor's list. Aux 3 Gaules was one of the higher rated restaurants, with a budget-friendly menu, so we took the chance.

We were not disappointed! In fact, we loved it. The servers were friendly, and even made an effort to speak English for my friend (who doesn't speak much French), and the food was awesome. We each had a mojito, a three course meal and we shared a bottle of wine, and our total bill was less than 80 euros.

I'd highly recommend this restaurant to anyone!

“Charming atmosphere, delicious food, good prices”
Reviewed July 30, 2011

Having heard that there was live music some evenings, we stopped in for a Friday evening dinner. The host and wait-staff were charming, giving a friendly greeting to each new arrival, stopping frequently to check that everyone was enjoying their meals, and generally keeping the atmosphere friendly and lively. This is clearly a place beloved by regular customers and not just by tourists. We chose two different menus: one of grilled meat and one of assorted seafood, and every element was simply but perfectly prepared: tender and juicy beef, lamb, and chicken, firm and delicate fish, shrimp and crayfish.

The entertainment was, however, the highlight of the evening. Not only did we enjoy lovely music (which was never too loud, even though we were very close by), but the host invited guests to join in the singing. The whole evening couldn't have been better.

The view from the restaurant is of the ancient amphitheater on one side and of the stairs leading up the hill on the other, so you can enjoy both the scenery and a slice of neighborhood life. If you want a warm, friendly atmosphere, delicious food, and entertainment, you must try this place!

“Cozy and delicious”
Reviewed April 28, 2011

The food here was superb. Went for lunch and had pork, artichoke heart, eggplant in tomato sauce, and scalloped potatoes. Everything was extraordinary down to the artichoke heart which was stripped down to the heart and eatable part of the stem then roasted. Each item was hot, tasty and out of this world. The owner/chef came out and described each item on the menu in English for us. We also got a pot of the red wine and it was outstanding. We me the chef's mom and dad and they were such lovely people. You could go and spend lots at a place where the chef's name is Paul and eat run of the mill good food. Or you could go the 3 Gaules, spend a lot less and get out-of-this-world food in a cozy atmosphere. It depends if it is about the food and atmosphere or about the prestige!!!
