“Holidays in Lyon”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed January 5, 2014

To all concerned the Hotel des Celestins is a great medium sized hotel in a great city! As the other reviewers stated it is in a prime location walking distance from all the great shops, sights, and restaurants! The ladies at the front desk were extremely helpful recommending restaurants. The rooms were quaint and clean. My room faced the front of the building which had a nice view but a bit noisy in the morning.
All things considered I would stay here again and recommend to anyone traveling to Lyon which I think is one of the prettiest cities in the world!
Cheers

Its in a great location (good shopping and site seeing and a quick walk to the Old part of Lyon). Even though you are in a busy part of Lyon, it is still quiet. The rooms are very comfortable and each room seems to have their own unique elegance! The staff is very friendly/helpful, and Claire (one of the receptionists) was extremely sweet and wonderful!

The breakfast was yummy and if we ever go back to Lyon, we will be staying here. It was a great experience...

Excellent location is probably the highlight, very close to trains main shopping area, bellacour, a 10 min walk to old town lyon! Rooms are ok for the price you pay and very clean. Besides if you are hardly in the room it doesn't matter! The girl at the reception was so helpful and friendly on guiding us and also assisted us to book restaurants - something that positively added to the personal touches of the stay. Overall for the price you pay, it was good.

Stayed for 2 nights during my honeymoon. Hotel was centrally located, easily accessible from the Bellacour Metro, nicely appointed rooms, modernized bathrooms and great service from the staff. Found the hotel from its high tripadvisor reviews and was very pleased. Highly recommend!

We stayed 5 nights at this lovely "boutique" hotel in the heart of the city. Great location close to high-end shopping, theatre, and old town without being too close to the touristy section of Lyon. Staff was wonderful during our entire stay and the extra security levels of locked front door and locked door to enter each level was reassuring. Our room, a superior Theatre view, was just large enough to be comfortable for our 5-night stay. We are a heavy user of WIFI in our room so we were exceptionally pleased that we could get a strong, consistent signal. Lots of small restaurants/brasseries nearby and one of the central restaurant districts is a 10-minute walk. Not a touristy section, which is what we strive for in a location. Launderette is a 10-minute walk (do not opt to do laundry on weekends as they are very busy) with easy to use washers and dryers. Safe. Breakfast was delicious with a wide variety of continental-type options, including choice of cooking your own soft-boiled eggs. When we return to Lyon, will definitely stay here.

Room Tip: Our Superior Theatre view room was comfortable, windows opened onto main street, but totally quiet w...

Flying into Lyon at 8pm after a long flight from Australia, Tracy and I were looking forward to hitting the sack. After a very friendly taxi drive into the 2nd arrondissment we arrived at the unimposing front door of The Hotel Celestin. The hotel rated highly on Trip Advisor and this, coupled with it's proximity to the centre of Lyon and the 'Old Town', made it seem like a good choice.

Our late arrival just beat the 10pm desk closure but we were warmly welcomed by Claire who spoke beautiful English and after an easy check in helped us out with some hot water for a cuppa. I would suggest that the staff are one of the highlights of Hotel Celestin; the team make you feel like you are staying in their home and are always ready to help out as required.

We stayed in a standard room which is admittedly on the small side, but Tracy and I don't mind a bit of adventure and after working out the best configuration for the suitcases we were very happy with the layout - after all, you only really need somewhere to wash and sleep.. the rest of the time you're out and about. The room had a bath/shower and a nice comfortable bed. There are larger rooms, and I believe suites, for those that want a bit more room.

The building is one of the older ones in central Lyon and is steeped with the patina of age. Even the lift, installed in more 'recent' times, is a quaint old style one, but the original doors and timber work of the hotel beg to tell the story of those who had passed by in days long gone. As such, if you're after the glitzy, mirror abundant, chandelier laden, type of hotel, then Celestins is probably not for you. What lacks in glitz though is easily made up for in charm.

The buffet breakfast is generous; boiled eggs, cereals, pastries and bread, fruit etc - all very fresh and a great start to the day before setting out to see Lyon.

A short walk gets you across the Saone into the Old Town and the funicular railway up to the Basilica and Roman amphitheatre. The Place Bellecour, and the riverside markets are just around the corner too. Overall the hotel is in a great location from which to explore the food capital of France.

My only regret is we didn't stay longer in Lyon which is a beautiful city, and if it wasn't for the fact we had some prepaid accommodation in Uzes, we would've happily stayed in The Hotel Celestins for much longer than the three nights we did.

In short, a quaint, friendly hotel, well positioned, and yet well priced, in the heart of Lyon.

Room Tip: The standard room is a little compact - if in doubt, go for a larger one.

We arrived by train and were able to walk right over to Hotel Celestins and were received very well by reception. Our room, although small - but great by European standards was very clean and neat, and a very nice size bathroom. We had a view of the Opera and I enjoyed watching the happenings on the street. We were close to old town and easily found our way over the bridge to the sites of the Old Town. This hotel is in a great location, the price if right, staff were very friendly and accommodating. Would return again and highly recommend Hotel Celestins!

Room Tip: make an early reservation and ask for a room viewing the opera house
