We stayed 1 night in Hotel des Celestins in mid August, on our way from Languedoc to Geneva by train. We had booked a number of months earlier to ensure the connected family 'Apartment' at the top of the hotel as we were travelling as a family of 4 with 2 small kids. We arrived late afternoon, tired but delighted with the very central location. Don't be put off by the rather forbidding entrance and the tiny lift; upstairs, the staff are welcoming and the place has charm even if it's not super chic. The trip was nearly ruined by being given keys to our rooms and finding the whole Apartment still dirty and unmade up from the last guests - but all credit to the staff, the lone receptionist (on a Sat evening) jumped up, found the cleaning stuff and took on the job - hey, mistakes happen and they dealt with it very graciously. I heard them being very helpful to other tourist guests and our Apartment was truly beautiful and well kitted out for a family once it was clean and ready. We had a lovely walk out to pretty parts of Lyon and breakfast was nice the next day - and taken off our bill as a gesture of apology. We'd definitely go back (but perhaps call ahead about the room next time...).
