We dined here Friday 15th March, and had a most delicious meal, with excellent wine. We both enjoyed our starters, but the beef mains were exceptional - such flavourful, tender meat, with delicious accompaniments. Desserts were wonderful as well. As this is a training restaurant, we felt we got more attention / service than you usually would in a restaurant, but it was never excessive or over-bearing. Definitely worth a visit, and we plan to return on our next trip to Lyon!

“Gastronomic Value”

As other reviewers have mentioned the tasting menus are a great value. The food quality is on par with much more expensive restaurants. Great choice for foodies on a budget.

“Wonderful food, lovely staff and great value”

A Paul Bocuse training restaurant they offer wonderful 2 and 3 course menus for Euros 26 & 35 respectively and lovely wines by the bottle for Euros 20. The steak main is wonderful and the strawberry dessert superb!

“A Paul Bocuse 'training ground' that doesn't need any lessons”

The restaurant is set within the rather plush Hotel Royal at a corner of Place Bellecour. The restaurant is one of two within the hotel and is the informal of the two in decor and atmosphere, but is first class when it comes to the food. The menu talks of the hotel as part of the Institut Paul Bocuse, but there is no evidence of this being a training ground other than the great value (32 euros for 3 courses) they offer for the food. Lyon is a city of wondrous food experiences but I could not recommend this place more if you are looking for an informal atmosphere with excellent, fresh, seasonal produce with an artistic flourish in the presentation. We could not fault any of the six dishes we collectively ordered. Standing out was the slow cooked beef, on macaroni, that fell apart when approached by our eager cutlery but had clearly needed skilled work in the kitchen to present as a beautiful steak disk belieing its slow cooked, falling apart, deliciousness. The deserts were not a disappointment - baked pineapple with mango sorbet and rum cake for me and a trio (chocolate mousse, rice pudding, mango panacotta) for my wife. Simply perfect.
